Is it possible for there to be any discrepancy between vermin of differing sizes? A flea is notably smaller than a rat, and I wouldn't expect a cat to be able to hunt them down and carry their corpses around.

Will we be able to create our own poisons/diseases? I'm already thinking of one that causes the dwarf's blood to boil and catch on fire...

I think we can make poisons, Foot would know for sure. Sadistic players will probably abuse it.

I'm just worried about the ability of doctors to treat these things. Are we going to have to start importing Golden Salve or whatever to cure poisons?

I don't think it would be abuse, it would just be...yeah it would be abuse. But Dwarf Fortress is already sadistic enough that this is just a drop in the bucket.

Besides, I was also thinking that at some point, when Toady puts some more work into health care, we could have zombies. Real zombies, as in one bites a dwarf and the dwarf becomes infected. It would be a pretty awesome way to lose have fun

well its just an question of the "poison and deseas " setup. Its broad enough to work for a number of things since  you have (as i understand it) a carrier, a trigger and a effect (correct me if i am wrong). The carrier is for example the poison material, the trigger is for example inhaling, and the effects are self explaining. Since a effect can be a list of things that happen at a given time or over a given time like fever, sweating, headache and reproducing of the carrier you can simulate poisons the plague and curses under the same system.

Illness is often anyway the same as poison since many bacterias produce poison which will affect you.
