Don't take the gun out of the shop, pick it up and don't stop shooting until there's no more blood left to come out.
Will do.

Just killed my first shopkeeper(s). :-)
Too easy, they ought to have an anti-projectile forcefield or something.

And why is it that my instinctive reaction to a spider dropping on me is to jump out of the way onto some nearby spikes? Happens too damn often for my liking..

Shopkeepers have tons of benefits as is. They have like 20 health, resistance to stomping, Nike shoes (special shoes you can't get that lets them jump super high), they're frickin' crazy, they have a shotgun, they're a crack shot with said gun, they can THROW you, they can grab a shotgun right out of your hands if they don't have one, and if you kill one, all the other shopkeepers in the game will be after you.

Wait, his ghost tells the other shop keepers? I died shortly after I killed mine.

Yeah, you get your face on a wanted poster and all future shopkeepers will be hostile.

Also, every time you kill a shopkeeper, the next two levels will have a hostile shopkeeper waiting near the exit; and it's cumulative.

Rage!

I got from the first level to the last for the first time and had almost killed the giant idol; only had one layer of rock to go. Then a stupid spawned exploding frog jumped near, I killed it but it exploded in my escape route from the idol leaving only fiery death.

Rage!

Edit: I have now unlocked the Stars Room, so it's not all rage.

First ten minutes of play I ate my loincloth and then got some limbs torn off by a super friendly rat. Thumbs up from me.

I usually just rope/jetpack/glide on top of the idol, which lets me kill it with impunity.
Once you're on top, just drop bombs through the center of the idol as it's going up. They'll fall through and destroy the floor below. Then you can just jump off before it falls into the lava.

For more rage, have 30+ hearts, kill the statue, then run towards the entrance only to get stunned by a caveman and thrown into the lava by a cultist with 1HP.

Oh my...shop keepers sure are picky.

I thought dropping things doesn't hurt people?

Also, I stole a damsel, I put her down, she ran out, I grabbed her and ran like heck. SHE IS MINE!

Press D next time, even if you don't have the cash. If you do and don't want her, then be more careful.

What does pressing D do?

Err, buys things? I'm sure it's the default setting. If you don't have the cash you'll just put her back on the ground safely. Bit of an oversight really.

But if you DO have the cash, but don't want to buy her, then you're just screwed.

I'm up to 498 deaths now.. I do at least have the shortcut to level 13 operational.
I got from the first level to the last for the first time and had almost killed the giant idol; only had one layer of rock to go. Then a stupid spawned exploding frog jumped near, I killed it but it exploded in my escape route from the idol leaving only fiery death.
Sounds familiar - exact same scenario happened to me, a bomb frog had gone critical in the middle of my exit route, except I decided to wait for it to explode - it took too long so I was simply crushed by the idol.

You can throw her and run away off screen real quick. Everything a little bit offscreen freezes so you might be able to avoid her running away.

Shopkeepers are unfair... Why can't I whip that caveman that is running around their shop (especially the black market)

Speaking of unfair shopkeepers, I accidentally crushed one with a boulder once and suddenly I'M the bad guy.

Seriously, the Indiana Jones-esque boulder trap spawned on the exact same vertical level as a shop. I grab the idol, the boulder starts rolling, and blasts right through the shop's rear wall.
