Well, I suppose we could help think of challenges or something.

It seems like what is wanted are quantifyable ones, Quotas or Size/Quantity measureable features.

If not, I have all sorts of ''special project'' challenges in my personal que I'd like to see tried out.

However, sticking with the numbers based ideas for now...

Sorry about the delay with this, I've been alternatively busy and distracted by other things. I'll try and generate the location tonight, for now here is the list of challenges I have. Most are quantifiable, but the group challenges are largely a matter of opinion. I might still change a few things, for some reason I really like the roach motel suggestion.

Individual Challenges: End the year with ...
- ... the highest average quality bedroom for all dwarves.
- ... the highest total food stores.
- ... the most legendary skills (ie. a single dwarf can count twice).
- ... the largest number of constructed screw pumps (that are actually able to pump something).
- ... the greatest number of kills by one dwarf.
- ... the highest percentage of dwarves with lovers.
- ... the single largest full stockpile (stone already there doesn't count).
- ... the highest dwarf population.
- ... the largest pointless construction (each square either built/engraved/something unused placed there counts).
- ... the highest created wealth.

Bonus team challenges:
- ... fastest turn completion.
- ... best display of ingame dwarfyness (eg. naming a dozen dwarves after succesor, killing them and leaving corpses to rot for next player.)
- ... most entertaining story posts.
- ... the largest and most impressive water feature.
- ... single most developed fortresss.

Point Screws: You can spend ...
- ... X points to set all dwarves to drowsy (sleeping powder attack!)
- ... X points to nerf stats of 1/7th random population (poisoned ale attack!)
- ... X points to teleport several wildlife just inside their defences (secret back entrance attack!)
- ... 2X points to wound or turn hostile 1/7th random population (ninja reveal attack!)
- ... 2X points to set a room on fire with magma (time bomb attack!)

Edit: I think I can do all of that last list in between turns with utilities and dice, anyway.

Okay, I'll probably go with this location:

It's pretty much flat, there's a tiny rise to the SW but not that you could use for much. That square does have dolomite, diorite and one less aquifer level, though. There are dwarves, goblins, elves and humans. You have sand, salt water, an aquifer, a magma pool somewhere and plenty of greenery. A quick test embark showed no undeath, I'm sad to say, just a couple of slugmen.

The starting dwarves will be a fairly standard build, a miner/mason, grower/herbalist etc. I'll embark with an anvil and minimal, varied, supplies. Unless anybody joins or changes their mind in the next few days I'll send I'll send out the savefiles for the first round on, say, Sunday.

EDIT: That is to say, I'll just upload the savefile on my website, since it'll be the same starting point for all players round 1 anyway.

I was wondering if there will be positive point usage as well?

something like, spend so and so points to gain a pack of 30 uncut marble, or wood, or etc. Or to increase skills, or stats. Add a dwarf or two, etc.

Not really. I decided to take out the point screws anyway, just to keep it simpler.

And to reply to two other things in one place, ideally you'd leave ON temp, weather, economy, invaders, caveins, artifacts, and leave OFF zero rent, as well as keep the population cap at 100 or so and the baby child cap at 100:1000 or something pointlessly high like that. Although if your computer actually has trouble running it otherwise, okay, but leaving the entire fort is 1/7 magma just so to spontaneously explode when the next player loads it is ... not recommended, hilarious though it may be.

And yeah, no mods.

Hey, is it too late to sign up for the later rounds?

I would think since some havn't even finished their first rounds, that you could still sign up for the beginning. It's Nameless' call though.

Also not sure how he will handle the teams

I wasn't able to find the save file, so I hadnčt noticed it had started, since everything was in future-tense.

So. um. where is the file?

There's a link in the other thread, under nameless' map screenshot for the save.

You can't really fairly join the game once it's going and while it IS still in the first round, one more player would throw the teams out. If somebody flakes during the game you could replace them then, but otherwise no, sorry.
