No you wouldn't I don't think. Anyways, what is our info on adding new castes? Common sense tells me that it would be fine since it's not a whole new creature, but I haven't actually messed around with castes that much.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Back when I tried it last (couple versions ago), no, you can not successfully add castes after world gen.
For one thing, after adding them they don't exist in the world, because they didn't exist during world gen.
The game appears to work fine for a while despite this, but then it started getting unexplained spontaneous crashes, which I attributed to adding castes, but may have been unrelated.
But that was a few version back.

If I add a [UBIQUITOUS] tag to a creature, do I need a new world for it to take effect?

Can items be added without regenerating? Obviously they won't appear in the world at large, but if I just want to make a pair of sticks for training up some knifefighters...?? Does this qualify as a reaction?

So, I hate how after every battle I'll lose some dwarves because their nail got smashed and won't heal. I added a healing rate in the raws (I think), but they're not healing. Did I do it wrong or does the world need to regen for that to take effect?

Posting to make sure this shows up as new -- As far as I know everything's still accurate, though I could use some feedback.

Would changing the [CHILD:X] tag require a regen?

I've done no 2012 modding, but in prior versions, no you can't.
Read the DF2010 Modding Guide before starting any modding, but keep in mind that 2012 is still very new, and we don't yet know how much changed.

I embarked on a map that has only tetrahydrite and galena, as far as I've seen.
I'm afraid I won't find iron.
So I want to mod in a reaction so I can turn microcline into iron bars at the smelter.

If I understand correctly I can change an existing smelter reaction in the save raws, to accomodate this, but I cannot add a new reaction, without regenning the world (because this would require a change to the entity raws as well), is that right?
