Increasing Weapons Skills?

Hello again.  I've been playing LCS a lot lately, and I'm starting to improve.  However, one of the main things I struggle with is getting weapon skills up to an acceptable level.  In my last few games I nearly always lost either during or right after a seige because my my Liberals could hardly find the business end of a gun. ::)

Anyway, since most other skills have relatively risk-free options for raising them, at least to an extent (selling brownies for Street-sense and Persuasion, as one example), how do you guys raise weapon skills?  I've yet to find a safer method than to kill the bouncer over and over, and that's still dangerous if it's in high security. :-\

Take hostages. Means a 50% chance of the enemy hitting them instead of you. Then find some janitors to shoot.

Wait in place until the moderates and liberals leave, so you won't hit or alienate them. Then when the janitor/officeworker/hapless victim jabs at you (factory workers are actually great for this, I just remembered), shoot them. Keep shooting them. Somebody in your group will eventualy hit and raise weapon skill. When you have about three kills, retreat. Kill off or subvert your hostages. Eventually you won't need hostages and can stop taking them, and in fact will be more accurate when you do. Keep doing constant low-intensity raids like this. Catch the Conservatives by surprise on your terms, kill them, and retreat.

Also, keep a good doctor or nurse in your squad and train them. They're a godsend when your Tactics skill fails to ward off those bullets from the Security guards.

The best way to get a squad trained in weapons is making raids on the AM radio station and Cable News station.

Wait untill the massive response of rubes, yokels and red-necks and go to town on them. Most have pitchforks and torches and only a handful of them have shotguns and none of them are very skilled with anything they use for a weapon.

Shooting them during the car chase part is even safer.

Another idea is just making very quick raids on places like the genetics lab, where a lot of conservatives hang out. Shoot 2-3 of them and book it before The Man comes down after you.

Yeah but the cable and AM station has news people and radio personalitys, witch fighting them is like jumping head first into a vat of acid.

I find it easier to avoid sieges myself.  Sieges require a fair bit of murder or terrorism to happen. So I avoid pointless killing (basically all killing not against the CCS) and turn myself in when the heat becomes too much, having already planted sleepers in the system.

When I do set out to kill people, I start with liberals who already have gun skill, then go on a couple painty-raids to get them up to activist.  Those who have gun skill include gangsters, vets and tortured CCS sleepers.  Gangsters are quite easy to recruit and can be seen as expendable.

Press the letter of the newsperson/radio personality...

You'll make them speak at the TV studio, actually, so taking them hostage is a great idea for a TV station raid if your leader has lots of persuasion and you think you can get away with it.

Some locations don't feature strong or well-armed conservatives, just wimpy teenagers and such.  You can pretty much have free reign at the vegan
co-op and the crack houses.  Just don't get greedy, AKA get out before the cops show up!

Thanks for all of the advice.  Lately, however, I haven't needed to fight people all that often.  My founder is usually a mixture of D and E, so after a while he's able to bluff remarkably well.  It's still good for me to train them up, though, because sooner or later there's always a siege.

Heh, the main thing is that I usually set up a few hackers gathering documents for the Liberal Guardian.  Eventually there's always a Corporate siege with mercenaries.  I learned to have a police sleeper early on, but I'm not sure who I need to recruit or enlighten to warn me of a corporate siege.  A CEO?  A Mercenary?  Or someone else entirely? :-\

Yeah, I figured that out pretty quickly on my own, but forgot to update my post.  I'm actually doing quite well this game. Of course now that I've said that, my founder will die in the next 5 minutes. You know what happens when you get too cocky... ::)

Mercs can also tell you of corporate sieges. I think its anyone based in a the corporate headquarters will tell you.

Okay, new question.  Besides moving between safehouses, how can I disperse of heat?  I've done a bit of save-scumming (but only if I'm gonna try giving up to a siege: I can never tell if they're gonna arrest me or outright kill me!) and I'm pretty sure turning them in isn't a good option.  The worst offenders get really long sentences, and to my understanding, rescuing them from prison retains their list of crimes and makes it even worse?  One thread mentioned community service; does that actively reduce heat?  Any other, similar methods for doing so?  Thanks.

I didn't want to spam up the board with various questions so this is my question thread for now.  Anyone else with questions is of course welcome to contribute.  Perhaps at some point I'll find time to add some of these tips to the wiki...
