Is Yredelemnul even worth it anymore? I noticed that my zombie hordes won't follow me level by level, and his gifts are often weak enough to be swarmed and killed.

Its good for a quick win but I don't know about extended, even his best pet gifts are kind of shit at the end. Now I don't know if they level up or not, if they do then I'm wrong

My experience has been that yred makes for a pretty easy game, but boring, unless you like piles of summons.

You can recall them from other levels, so essentially you keep building up an army (while supplementing it with zombies for each floor with your ability).  When you need help, you recall a giant army and they kill stuff.

His other abilities are great too.  Pain mirror is incredible, although it costs lots of piety.  The life steal ability is also great, and the one where you can choose a creature to enslave when they die is also quite good.

Last time I played Yred[Which was a version or two ago, mind you], you still get some pretty impressive zombie armies. Not quite Beogh orc horde size, but pretty close. The gifts are mostly useful for persisting between levels and can be quite helpful in getting the rampage train chugging on. I have fond memories of besieging the Snek rune vault with an huge army of undead snekpeople. That's honestly a best-case scenario, but Yred is still solid in other places. Enslave Soul is fun with monsters with special abilities, like Malign Offering and such. Never used Pain Mirror, but Drain Life is quite nice.

Do not underestimate pain mirror, while it is expensive, it'll kill dangerous uniques for you.

Isn't Yred zombies affected by the player owned undead nerf (they all crumble to dust in a few turns) from 0.17 and + ?

Nope, Yred zombies persist indefinitely. 's supposed to be a way to differentiate Yred undead hordes from Kiku undead hordes.

Can you quote the bit in the changelog that refers to this? I tend to avoid playing with undead (just isn't my playstyle) but I don't recall experiencing that, and in a quick look at the 0.17 changelog right now I can't find what you're describing.
"A few turns" is a bit hyperbolic but yeah, undead will crumble away pretty quickly now from the Necromancy spells. Might last you a couple encounters bu no more floor-clearing hordes

It's on the changelog of 0.17 as it was the version in which every of my necromancer undead were disappearing into dust after a few time, and i replied to my own question when re-finding  the entry, Yred still have them permanent :D

Quote
Derived undead created by spells or items are temporary, falling apart after
some time. Yredelemnul still creates permanent undead.

Not so much to say about this. Gozag is really, really powerful on characters that use items - which is all of them. Just look at those god damn items. I chose not to do extended, cuz this was supposed to be a quick win, and the Abyss and Zot were miserable.

Not going to go into details since Gozag's been in game forever, but I will mention a few things that surprised me:

- Even as an Ogre, I didn't buy a single item of food. It was just not a problem ever.
- Getting a good first shop (as an Ogre you're most probably going for armour in the hope of getting a Dragon Armour) makes early game incredibly easy.
- Potion petition is incredibly good since it doesn't have a cooldown and most potion combos are pretty powerful.
- Gozag is really god damn powerful

As for the game itself:

I had to bail from Abyss:5 and then stay at abyss:3 because I didn't have regen and just got drowned under a relentless tide of shitty abyss monsters. I had to bail from Slime:5 since now when His Highness dies, all the walls outright disappear and you get fully surrounded by whatever garbage has spawned.

It also had the worst Orb run I've had in ages, as well - a tangled, panicked mess of teleports, smashing reload scrolls into my wand of healing and throwing cash at Gozag to keep the potion line running. I kept noticing god damn pan lords every step of the way, and at some point got slow reading, which lead to me getting trapped with a pan lord and a literally unknow amount of executioners since two Rakshasas just kept god damn duplicating everything. I ended up chucking potions of curing as I was at 20 hp, somehow got to ~40, quaffed my last cMut, reloaded my wand of healing and just noped out of there.

Yeah, Gozag is one of the best gods. Buffs on par with Trog/Oka, the best item gifts of any god and high-tier allies from Bribe Branch eclipse several other gods completely.

That said, if you're playing a spellcaster of any kind with Gozag, food gets to be a bother. My last tournament win with a DrFe of Gozag cleaned out ten food shops. Ten.

What the hell? Spent very little time in D:3, it's currently less than 3k turns total, and a wyvern? On an OpWz? Thank goodness I trained stealth.

Yeah, sometimes really strong things show up early for no good reason (I've died to an Unseen Horror on D:4 and a Hydra on D:6 or so and I've met Tengus and storm dragons on D:10 or 11) and iirc super-out-of-depth monsters occasionally showing up like that is a design decision - "If you survive, you'll be much more attached to your character" or something like that.
