About how much damage do you expect to take at rF+++?
I did some quick math, and according to it, you can expect an average of 6,4 damage per adjacent creature. (Worst case: 12 damage/creature)

Wow. I guess my old experiences with scrolls of immolation were all at very low level and before resistances, because I remember them being so ridiculously dangerous that I'd immediately throw them out after IDing them. That's nothing on a V:5-capable meleer.

Yeah, immolation is GREAT for V:5 and Zigs and similar areas. Add in Tornado/Shatter/Apocalypse/Disaster Area for extra explosions.

Well, some of you may say it doesn't count, but I've finally made it! For my first time, I escaped with the Orb of Zot, playing as a DDFi of Makhleb. I wouldn't say it was much easier than it could have been with a minotaur or gargoyle, but it definitely was faster, for I didn't have to wait until my hp was restored all the time.

Honestly, I've never managed to get a DD past like the first level of Lair. Seems as valid a win as any.

I heard people say that a deep dwarf of Mahkleb is pretty good but from my experience he doesn't give enough health. How do you sustain your health?

You can fake being able to run on water. You can't fake looking cool when you break your foot on a door and hit your head on the floor.

I heard people say that a deep dwarf of Mahkleb is pretty good but from my experience he doesn't give enough health. How do you sustain your health?

All the game along, my deep dwarf would rely on the starter wand of healing, and after I had managed to get to the temple and become a worshiper of Makhleb, it was mostly health regaining on kill which carried my character through the game. Also I found a vampiric long sword in the vaults which wasn't very helpful until I enchanted it, and I assume it saved me a good number of mana points which I would have to sacrifice if I hadn't found that blade. Unfortunately, I was unable to attain a better one-handed weapon another than some shoddy randart double sword, yet it did allow my character to slay the adversaries quicker and thus make up for hp loss more effectually (despite that it wasn't vampiric-branded).

I suppose, once you have managed to obtain a damaging vampiric weapon with good enchant on it, you don't have anymore to worry about being unable to recover hp naturally that much (unless you're exploring an area where there are few living creatures wandering around).

Deep Dwarf just annoys me. No HP regen might not be an actual disadvantage when you start with a want of heal wounds and the ability to recharge it, but its sure as hell inconvenient, especially for someone who hoards as much as I do.

So apparently I underestimated Tengus. They're better Deep Elves, in almost all ways. Better blasting and MUCH better melee aptitudes on top of permaflight[That doubles as boots of running] combine to make a pretty robust character. Not being able to wear boots or helmets is their only real disadvantage. I have to say, I've had TERRIBLE luck with resistances that aren't rC. Even then, most of the rC has been concentrated on otherwise terrible weapons or rings. A single ring of protection from fire and a staff of fire are all I have for rF and my Hit-Me Gloves of the Monkey's Paw are one of THREE sources of rN in the entire dungeon. So, until very recently, because of needing to wear a leather armour to shore up my resists, I had an armour class of 13. As a result, I took over EIGHTY damage from an Orb of Destruction in Vaults:5. Only the fact that I was at nearly full health kept it from being an instagib.

Also, I hit an ogre with Yiuf's Chaos Quarterstaff and it turned into a two-headed ogre. I didn't know that could happen.

And now my Tengu is dead. Got cornered by 2 Orbs of Fire with only one pip of rF and only Airstrike to use against them. Tried to escape via a nearby permanent teleport trap and ended up two squares away. CBlinked to the teleport trap and ended up still within range of those Orbs of Fire.

Sometimes I really hate how teleports are processed in this game.

I'm almost ready to go at this game again, with a different main character. Last time, I primarily did HOFi of Oka, until I finally had my (so far) only win, though I did play other characters to break up the tedium at times.

Not sure if I want to do stealth, magic, or what, but I've been leaning toward DE Wi or Con or something. Just ... needed a break after the over two hundred characters i needed for my first win.

Oh boy, here we go again.

Another MiGl for the moment, since it's been so long since I've played.  Feel out the new changes, see what's different since the last time I won.

So if I wanted to win a Sp, what would you recommend? I've heard Nem, but that's years old. Before the sac removal.

How to kill things? Enchanter background, prob, but hexes fall out over time.

Discord never falls off and Invisibility works well against lots of high-MR things[Notably, dancing weapons]. For an Enchanter, you want a way to kill things that stabs can't touch. Trog/Oka are actually decent stabby gods for that reason. Dith is a terrible stabby god because he doesn't give you any new offense tools, just gives you more stealth stuff. Gozag could also work, but I'd go for Makhleb. Healing on kill is useful for low Spriggan health and summons are good for when things go terrible terribly wrong with stealth.

Posting to watch.
