Unless you get really unlucky, melee characters can kill all ghosts they meet by drinking a potion of might.
Early dungeon. Ghost with venom brand.

"There's no hope."

Also dropping through two or three floors next to a powerful ghost with no useful potions, no nearby stairs, and in a dead-end passage.
Ahh, shafts. Probably the only trap that has killed me.

Shadow traps have come very close on occasion.  But I can't specifically remember a shadow trap ever doing me in, just extreme scenarios where one triggers when there was already a dangerous unique nearby.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

I read that as "fell through a shaft on floor 1" and was wondering how the fuck you survived that.

Is there a list of what monsters are the most lethal at each experience level?

I know there is a total list, but I am curious as to what the mid and late game killers are.

I'd say giants/yaks/hydras for pre-Lair. Afterwards, its not a single enemy that gets your head on a pike, but a whole horde of bloodthirsty creatures.

Not having resistances seems to be a good killer late game.

At all depths: overconfidence, boredom, and not realizing that most battles are optional.

This list is by place and for a melee character. The deadliness will vary based on your branch order and the type of weapon/spell you use.

Spoiler: List by place (click to show/hide)

Basically, swarms of high-HP high-damage creatures are dangerous early on. Later, anything with Smite can kill you if you aren't careful. The only unique who is dangerous all the time is Mara, which is because Mara summons a copy of you.

I'll go ahead and call out caustic shrikes. I've lost a disproportionate number of characters to how threatening they should be, but it turns out bees covered in jelly can make a high armor character into tissue paper really fast.
