Bleh. I died to a random Pan floor where a bunch of smiters were on the other side of a runed door. This was after easily getting all but the Dis, Cocytus, and Tartarus runes. At least I've learned my lesson about smiting.

The first rule of Pan is to avoid the Hellion vault no matter what your character is.
But yes. What Leafsnail said. Always what Leafsnail said because he knows many things.
Hellions sing the song of Claude Frollo. :P
What do you guys think a negative SH would do?

Presumably, it would make enemies more able to hit you than if you weren't wielding the shield.
Doubtful, checking the SH formula on the wiki. SH != EV (or chance to BE hit). I'm of the belief that it is just as useful as if you had 0 SH.

Does -EV help enemies hit you easier then? Or does it also function as 0?

Checking the formula, even if your size modifier is bigger than the denominator, it'll be the strangest 'bonus' that I'm unsure about--however in these cases, I believe it'll function like 0.

HOWEVER having -64 corrosion dumping your AC to near 0 will pretty much kill you unless you escape because of how hard-hitting enemies are. :P [/PersonalReference] (Gargoyle Character with ~50 AC)
Sorry, can't help but reference the annoyingness over deadliness of corrosion now

I've lost several high level characters to the slime pits and corrosion. Not this last time though :P. I got rF+++, lured TRJ over and let it spawn some slimes, read a scroll of immolation, and then blew them all up.

Eep! :-X I only realized now that I'm mentioning all my experiences of annoyance > deadliness because I primarily play armored fighter characters and did not account for the general audience. (ie 20+ AC, usually 30+ generally)

But I agree, scrolls of immolation are a good way to help :3
(They are also a good way to get penance with any god that gets grumpy if any summoned follower gets touched by the resulting flame, like what happened to me vs TRJ. TSO left meeeeeeee until I found out I could one-shot azure jellies with my flaming sword >_>)

My path is always finish Lair and its two branches, + Elf and Vaults ~4th floor + Depths, before the Slime pits. Mostly because I enjoy gobbling up any mutagenic thing ever and not wanting to meet those Malmutate Eyes. :I

I'm in the depths now. My glorious edgy demonspawn is just taking the ogres like a champ.

I've found multiple doors to the Abyss and Pandemonium, which takes care of my worrying I wouldn't find them on my ascension.

Still going for the 3-orb-12 run. Level 23 and found a manual of Shields. Can't be too tanky now!

First character I ever used for this lovely game. Demonspawn Abyss Knight. I get health regen for killing dudes.

Some nerdy elf brother-sister combo nails me on floor five. Damn.

Ahh, your first character. You got the Demonspawn part right. But..not a Skald? Dude, enhancements are the way to go. Regeneration is god-tier.

Anyway, I've entered the Ziggurat. Really should've come back here after getting the Orb, but I'm not insane...not completely insane, anyway.

I passed a treasure trove demanding 2 scrolls of acquirement. Found one of them so far, hopefully I'll find the other before this run's over.

Got a Brand Weapon scroll and changed my broad axe (I upgraded) from venom to flaming. And two floors later, I encounter hydras.

On the 13th floor...Draconians. It's like I interrupted some weird scaly yiff-fest because they were all pissed off. They fell by my axe, though it was really tight for a minute there. I've maxed out in level and I'm grinding my shields, armor and evade to become even more unkillable.

Trying Zig after Orb is ridiculously boring & hard. While in main dungeon, demons spawn on a wide level and take a while to get their claws on you. In the Zig, they spawn directly on top of you and turn already quite tiring climb into never-ending slaughterfest of imminent death.

Tell us how you'll cope with later floors. The most FUN creatures are often concentrated on them in great numbers, ready to tear you into small shreds of gore.

Just be careful when you enter a holy themed floor. The monsters there deal almost double the damage to you.

You can fake being able to run on water. You can't fake looking cool when you break your foot on a door and hit your head on the floor.

Maybe I should just post the morgue file and let you tell me how I did.

Spoiler, I did great. The most annoying attacks were damnation. I'm half-demon, I should be the one doing the damning, damn it! Everything else I was able to tank and evade.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
*Had to cut out the actions bit since it was too big to post. Weird.*
Honestly I didn't have that much trouble. I got in a corner and took 'em on 3 at a time. Axes rule. So do enhancement spells. Sadly, I didn't see a holy floor. Game's being a wuss.
I just know those gloves are going to screw me over when I need to teleport and cant. But...+7 strength!!!

*Update* Just picked up the orb. Those Orbs of Fire are as tanky as I am. Game's still being a wuss. *Tempts fate*

"I was once like you..." says Locot the Deep Dwarven Shield-bearer Ghost to Apenihyg the Deep Dwarven Shield-bearer.

Creepy.

"Viery impressive. But it won't help. NOTHING WILL." shrieks Locot. I am now suitably scared, and quaff a potion of might before bashing him apart.

Unless you get really unlucky, melee characters can kill all ghosts they meet by drinking a potion of might.

Early dungeon. Ghost with venom brand.

"There's no hope."

Also dropping through two or three floors next to a powerful ghost with no useful potions, no nearby stairs, and in a dead-end passage.
