Who is BIll Williamson? Is the BI part intentional or just a typo? Because DOzebom LOlumzalis would look pretty cool, and it would spell DOLO, an abbreviation for Dwarves Only Live Once, true unless you're playing Xom or a good god.

I actually play tiles too, I just use it as a byword for a certain subset of player.  Like he said, people who are new tend to make a consistent set of mistakes, mostly in risk management.  You've probably got a 90% chance of winning your first ogre if you just tab it with a tough character, and that seems good, but those small risks add up.  The law of averages catches up with players like that usually before Lair.

It's fine with new players, only one way to learn, but a lot of people keep on doing it long past the point they should know better.  That's what I mean by tilers.  The people who evangelize Chei and other weird things they use as crutches to help overcome their repeated bad decisions.

Messing around in trunk, I encountered a new unique. I'm not so sure what to do about her. I can easily avoid her, but she looks like something interesting. Advice?

Spoiler: Bai Suzhen (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Partial character dump (click to show/hide)

I don't think I have what it takes to kill her, but I'm curious to see what surprises she has in store.

Never had problems with Bai before, she's pretty wimpy. Still probably too much to handle with an elec short sword. I'd read a scroll of vulnerability and then initiate full naptime[Or confusion if that's noticeably easier] inducement mode.

Or, wait, you're with Uskayaw. You might just be able to beat her down on melee then, if you can handle THE THUNDER.

I think you should just accept that the RNG had a huge giggle at your expense and carry on as normal. Even when tengu go melee they wear lighter armor.

Its been a while since banishment killed me. Ironically, swapping to an MR+ ring to avoid Louise's Banishment exposed me to her Distortion, with the same results. I'd probably have been fine, except I got hit with a LOT of very nasty temp-mutations. Frail meant that I was even squishier then normal, No Device Heal stopped me from getting better and Subdued Magic meant that fighting back with Conjurations was useless. At least I snagged the abyssal rune before dying.

If you were so desperate to escape the abyss, why did you end up on the third floor?

You can fake being able to run on water. You can't fake looking cool when you break your foot on a door and hit your head on the floor.

Got cornered and decided that Abyss:3 couldn't be THAT much worse then being swarmed right now. If I hadn't gotten those particular mutations or landed right next to the rune vault, I'd probably have survived.

So how do I Nemelex? Playing trunk, so all his neat decks of wonder are gone, not that I've ever played him before.

Realistically, you ignore him for the most part. Take advantage of the good decks he throws your way when you explore, but don't put much xp into evo or anything.

VpEn are the coolest. What's the best god for them? Dithmenos has not turned out well - I'm already stealthy, I need something else to support my stealth when it doesn't work!

I would put it out there that evo is a pretty good skill without a god that uses it.  Its not like invocation where you take it for your god always.  So if you're going Nemelex you should definitely make it a priority.  Not as much as your primary damage skill of course, but it should be up there.

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

Trunk Nemelex uses Invo instead of Evo now.

If you're playing Nemelex, PLAY NEMELEX. Be a Demonspawn or a Hill Orc and PUMP that INVOCATIONS to the MAXIMUM. Who needs FIGHTING or ARMOUR when you have a STACKED DECK? Embrace the RANDOM JOY of decks, fling cards in all directions like confetti and prance about like an EPILEPTIC MIME.

In all seriousness, decks are pretty fabulous. Decks of summoning/destruction basically equate to Makhleb level invocations right there and decks of escape grant some of the best panic buttons in the game.

Forget about the floor, I'm pretty sure that the entire dungeon can hear me right now...

Shield of the Gong, Singing Sword, worshipping Qazlal, occasionally shout uncontrollably mutation... and, for some reason, I've got a ring of stealth equipped.
