Overflow MP eventually gets turned into a potion of magic that Pak gives you. That's what it means.

So that explains all the !oM gifts!

Which is more optimal: use up MP to power your wands to keep from getting full, or let the MP get full and then use up the MP and then quaff the potion and use up the MP?

Scenario One:

I start out with full MP.

I use half to power my wand.

I kill monsters and am full.

Scenario Two:

I start out with full MP.

I kill monsters and get a !oM.

I use all my MP to power a wand.

I quaff the !oM.

I use half my MP to power a wand.

Which of the above scenarios is more monster-killing-to-wand-refilling efficient? I suppose it depends on how often Pakellas gifts the !oM.

Never seen so many artifact amulets of inaccuracy spawn in a single game...

Inacc, rPois, MP+9
Inacc, rF++, rC+, rN++, Dex-2
Inacc, MR++
Inacc, +Inv, Int-3, Dex-2

And I only did Lair/Swamp/half of Vault. (That second one was looking kind of tempting as a swap, I admit.)

Is there a tourney thread yet? I'd like to join a B12 team.

Me too.  When does the tourney start? No word of it at all on the official forums, as far as I can tell.  I know it's coming soon...

The tournament starts tomorrow at 20:00 UTC, with a week's time to form latecomer teams. I'd make the thread myself, if I had any experience with these.

Didn't noticed DCSS 0.18 had been released yesterday :
http://crawl.develz.org/wordpress/crawl-0-18-pakellass-packrats

Some interesting changes, some like difficulty increase after clearing multiple ziggurats aren't concerning to me considering the only ziggurat i ever managed to clear since i started to play DCSS was the one in Sprint and every zigs i tried in actual main game mode always resulted in character death anyways.

I wonder if the changes to Orcs will lead into people buying more stuff in shops, potentially a good one, though it will always depend what's in the shops in your game.
Apparently from what i read Strength does not give weapon accuracy bonus anymore, it's Dexterity for the minor accuracy bonus.
Never knew that Dexterity did nothing for accuracy, i always imagined it was Strength for damage and Dexterity for accuracy, when was it ever changed to Strength for everything ?
Anyways, that's the minor accuracy bonus, the real accuracy is still Fighting + Weaponskill apparently.

Been a while i have not played, time for my yearly characters splashing i guess :)

Hey all.

I've been playing this game for a while, but haven't yet gotten a win. In fact, the furthest I ever got was the depths. My last character died in Elf 3, because I let myself get surrounded.

Currently I am playing a Hill Orc Fighter of Okawaru. I use axes and bows. I recently got a book of translocations and memorized apportation and blink (for kicks, as both currently have 100% fail)
Then I found this amulet: the amulet "Zoac"{rCorr *confuse Int+10 Dex+7} In the Lair.

Pretty nice, but that *confuse is worrisome. Should i keep it? Are the boosts worth the danger of confusion? I don't have any sources of clarity, though I think I do have a potion of cancellation or two.
Also, still playing 0.17 if that matters.

Confuse is bad enough that you shouldn't wear the amulet without clarity. Keep track if it, though - you might have a use for it later on, since rCorr might help you through the Slime Pits (if you go there) and the stat increases are really good.

The amulet honestly seems pretty meh. If you were a pure caster worshiping Ash or with some other means of non-amulet clarity, the +10 Int could be decent if you didn't have any good resistance granting amulets. As it is? Maybe put it on against acid blebs or to help you cast Repel Missiles. But it gives trivial boosts[For a melee or hybrid character] while giving you a larger drawback.

If you really wanted, you could quaff a few Mut or BeneMut potions and get lucky and have Clarity mutation.

I emergency quaffed early on (very early) and got malmuted with dopey and weak. Lost two points of int and str while in a combat I had thought was easy but turned out badly because of a chaos brand - Xom had an altar on that level and everything had chaos weapons. I actually survived that encounter and went on to find a cure mutation potion. If I find another, I may very well try that. my last character, I drank a beneficial mutation potion pretty early and lucked out with robust - no armor restrictions or anything.

Thanks for the advice about the amulet. I'll hang onto it but not wear it (probably stash it in lair) for now.

Ozarck, you don't need cancellation to get rid of confusion, potions of curing will remove it as well.

However, I still wouldn't wear that amulet.  Getting confused at random when being hit can be really bad.
