Now, the .io site is ok as long as you don't try to sign in with a .to account, and there's always options like nyaa.se horriblesubs.info or even moetube.net.

So how about them Flip Flappers?

...Well, I'm not sure if there's anything to say about it that isn't massive spoilers right now. Yayakat is still cute, I guess.
Just caught up. Holy shit, eh?

For those not in the know, the show started explaining things in episode 10. Not like, really explaining, but there's flashbacks and it's a level of exposition that you'd see in most anime around episode 6 or 7, so it feels like a lot after having to actually think and use our brains to get bits of the plot for so long. I feel like I need to rewatch the whole thing in light of this. But I was already planning to do that at the end.

Why would you call Grimgar relaxing feel good :C
It has sad bits and fights, but it's fundamentally a pretty relaxed show.

Used to watch it religiously as a kid, had it on every school morning at about 7 AM or so with reruns on Saturdays, was a damn good show, might give it a rewatch one of these days. Theme song was pretty swish.

I'm watching Keijo, now that I finally learned what it's called.

It's refreshing to find a show where I say "Oh god this is stupid" every other line, and that's actually the intent (I can only guess). The last time I had a reaction like that, it was Sword Art Online.

The difference is that SAO wasn't supposed to be stupid and campy.

I think you mixed up what he meant, looking at what he said, he probably meant 'Last time I said 'Oh god this is stupid' every other line, it was SAO', the concept of Keijo actually having the intent of having that reaction was separate from the statement about SAO.

Why is it that anime adaptations can waste a lot of time on pointless drama that didn't exist before in the source material.

But when it comes to actually translating the drama in the source material they treat it like they have absolutely no time and rush through the development thusly ruining what was already there?

Considering how niche most anime is in Japan compared to manga, most viewers are probably already fully conversant with the source material. In that case, then it's probably seen as a waste of time to cover the existing backstory in detail. Look up the concept of Transmedia:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transmedia_storytelling

Basically when building a franchise across multiple types of media, rather than a straight adaptation, it's usually much more effective to make it so that different aspects of the story are drawn out in each form of media. It's just better business sense if each variant of the franchise has different story material: then you need to go and read the manga, novel, visual novel, games, anime and movies all separately. Which means much more profits.

Conversely, some anime may be made to advertise the source (this is common with LN-based stuff) and as such they want you to get into the original more so putting everything is counterproductive.
