To be fair, the point of the show is the boobies. It's like watching actual porn and being disappointed that you didn't get to see a fleshed-out examination of why the student decided to bang her teacher - it's not relevant to the premise.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

It also kind of COMPLETELY dropped the "How would romance between two different species even work?" and "How is life between two species"... Which is what got me to watch after the first episode originally (now I just can't care enough).

It was kind of interesting to see the mechanics of just being inhuman. Sure it got pervy but in many ways that enhanced that aspect, it wasn't going to skirt around the juicy details.

But it stopped really caring about it pretty much immediately. The Harpy Girl for example can be summed up as "an birdbrain" which honestly doesn't feel like a quality a Harpy would possess... and she was the second one.

The Culture Clash aspect never really found prominence but Joshua is right it would have improved the series so vastly.

Now you might answer me with the Centaur Woman... but remember "Only my master can ride me" makes absolutely no sense for a culture that is bereft of humans... Unless they ride eachother (Not that way!)

If that was true then the series would just be a lot of stills molded together.

There are reasons why this smultz makes its way into echi titles.

Not to get into details, but I have seen porn where the fully-clothed, completely unsexy setup filled more than half the runtime.

If you want that you can always just play Mass Effect. :P

Or watch Star Trek: TOS...

My actual favorite parts of each episode was the post-credits encyclopaedic entries on the nonhuman species and their various subspecies. They were all so interesting! A good deal of them directly state that some nonhumans and humans had been coexisting since forever. Like the first entry for the Lamia species, which states that Lamias are a pure female race that needs human men to reproduce, implying that lamia have been cohabitating with humans for a looooong time now, or their species and culture has specifically evolved to kidnap men and... you get the idea... which actually explains alot about our main heroine.

... the manga spells it out a bit more. Of the species introduced so far, from what I recall the only one that's sticking around that didn't kidnap or otherwise acquire human males for part of their breeding cycle is the dullahan (and I guess the slime). Even the centaurs did, and they're not a monogendered species.

The lamia was actually sent out into the world to bring back a human to be shared among her entire colony, as was culturally normal for their people until the human world in general found out about monster races and started putting feet down. Harpies would regularly just flap around and pick up whatever caught their fancy and fly off with them (and then later forget who they were and go screw someone else -- papi and her mother are apparently unusually intelligent/possessing of good memory for a harpy). The centaurs... well, they didn't start breeding much with humans until recently, but they've been using humans as part of their happy fun times for longer than that. Arachnae did what you'd expect from a spider species. It's implied pretty heavily (where it's not outright stated) that consent isn't particularly involved in any of it, heh.

It's... the thing about the species backgrounds in monster musume is they're pretty much all porn plots. Lamia's a harem/gang-rape, harpy's a one-night stand, centaur's NTR, arachnae's black widow, etc., etc., etc. It does actually flesh them out somewhat, but... yeah. Is one of the parts about it that is fairly amusing, to me :P

E: Also, you'll find as you go along that centoria's spiel is not exactly normal for a centaur. Not sure if the anime has hit it yet but the manga has. There's some stuff going on there, and what she's doing is unusual for the species.

Anyone Watched/Read "Overlord" yet???

Great story, a DMMORPG (D is Dive like in SAO) called Yggdrasil is closing down, it was unique due to the fact that players could customize a large amount of things, build their own guild halls, items and even NPCs. The downside was that it was an Early adapter to the Dive system so it was outpreformed by newer ones. The other interesting thing was that other then the normal races, players could also become Moster Races as well, such as the MC, who's race choice was that of an Elder Lich. The Guild 'Ainz Ooal Gown' is one of the Highest Ranking guilds in the game, but to be part of it, you had to be a WorkingClass Member of IRL (an adult with a Job/Life) and also one of the Monster Races...
The MC, Momonga, is there for the last few minutes of the game's life. The others of the Guild had long since quit or had other IRL Commitments to attend to thus missing out (It was shutting down at midnight). But as with many manga, not everything seems to be as what you would think. Instead of being kicked from the Server at Midnight, the found himself still within the game, or not. Now being fully connected with his Avatar he finds himself in another world...

Quite a few of us have :V

I haven't seen the anime, but I did go through the manga a couple times and I've read most of the LNs translated to date. I'd probably recommend the latter over the other two, honestly. Fleshes out a lot, seems to have progressed plot wise a fair bit further than the other two mediums.

Hasn't changed from what you first posted.

Though, uh, that said, you probably want to change that manga link, now that I actually check to see where it's going. Forum ToS is pretty explicit about linking to illegal material, and that includes pretty much all scanlation.

I finally finished Yowamushi Pedal: Grand Road. MAN I liked that alot. It really is basically Hajime No Ippo on bikes, except I'd say it's even better because it doesn't have plot threads that promise to never end, our single female character is NOT a love interest and therefore our MC isn't making himself out to be wimpy and dickless by digging in his heels and refusing to even attempt pursing romance, and the main 'combat' involves teamwork so the MC isn't a one-man show.

Yowamushi Pedal will get lovingly categorized in my mind as one of those "Pure" shonen experiences, where there's nothing or very little distracting from the ooie-gooie shonen goodness.

My only complaints are...
