For HunterXHunter go ahead and skip forward to the Chimera Ant arc as Greed Island was boring as hell.

Go watch the Devil is a Part Timer! Laugh and enjoy the hilarity (with much less fanservice then you would expect in a show like that, it's a very nice light comedy). :P

You have Mononoke on your list; go watch episodes 9-11 of Ayakashi: Samurai Horror Tales and then if you liked that, keep going with Mononoke proper.

But I am starting to think that even though the anime and manga takes his side... that we as the audience are supposed to see through that. Like the manga/anime are from Goku's perspective.
Look at it this way, Goku left his family to continue fighting while Vegeta left fighting to be with his family.

In my opinion, Vegeta could be a way more interesting character if they actually tried, maybe even being protagonist material. They could play on his aspects of being the prince of all Saiyans, his pride, and his family. There could be some conflict between family time and training to become the strongest he can be. Issues can be raised as he tries to share his heritage with his children, but that can be difficult when his heritage is mostly based on fighting, eating, more fighting, and genocide. After that, add in a Gohan-Goku-like child-parent relationships. Introduce his decades-long rivalry with Goku and an uber-powerful villain to give everything more weight. Finally, make him a Super Badass Super Saiyan God x100 to balance out all the prissy feelings and family crap from most of the rest of this paragraph.

this is actually how dragon ball super has been so far

Inferno Cop or Senyuu both have very short episodes and are hilarious
Paranoia Agent, Kaiba or Kuuchu Buranko for a trip-out
Gin no Saji, Spice and Wolf or Natsume Yuujinchou for the relaxing stuff with nice artwork.
Hajime no Ippo for a longer thing with violence.

Black Rock Shooter.

Please, someone, tell me it gets better.
It doesn't.
And died.
No.
Thank you all. I stopped immediately and I'm on to Death Parade now.

However I'm looking for something a bit more violent and sword-sy to watch with my brother.
Preferably between Bleach and Berserk in terms of hardcore-ness.
Anybody mind helping me out?

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

Claymore would probably do it. It's definitely on the seinen side of the spectrum with people and monsters being dismembered left and right, but it doesn't have Berserk's sexual stuff and the gore is somewhat reduced. It's good and fairly faithful up until it completely goes off the rails for the non-canon ending. Sort of like Berserk in that respect, except that it was an outright fabrication tacked on to the end of the prologue instead of just stopping.

For the morbidly curious, what's up with that? I've seen the... movie-thing, I guess, but I'm otherwise unfamiliar with how many BRS things there are out there.

Afro Samurai features swords and is fairly brutal, though not quite Berserk brutal. It's pretty short. Samurai Champloo is less violent but still very stabby, and consists of a full and proper season.

I feel like you've already seen it, but Kill La Kill is very un-brutal but ridiculous and actiony and sometimes involves swordlike objects. It would not be my first choice for swordfights specifically, but it's very very good.

I've heard Sword of the Stranger is good, but I haven't seen it and so can't properly comment.

I feel like I should know of more sword anime than this. Hrm.

Might try Rurouni Kenshin as well, but it's been long enough that I can't be sure how well it holds up.

Sword of the Stranger is indeed an awesome movie, straight up Grit, rather than the Grit With Cheese that is Afro Samurai.

And This is the best magical girl show of the season.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
