Well except the game takes place in New York. Where you are part of an undercover Performance Theatre battle troop for two reasons:
1) It is the perfect cover
and
2) Because the girls can purify the hearts and minds of the people with their songs

And let me tell you... it was that alone that made me laugh. It is totally something an anime, but not generally speaking a game, would do.

The way he mentioned it made me think he was making a comparison to an anime that couldn't be represented in a game. I've never heard of it.

Oh, yeah I've heard a lot about that series. The one Neo's playing is actually the 5th installment that was the only one to get translated. (and also according to some was the worst of the main series. At the very least it was the worst selling and put the franchise is a coma it has yet to recover from, though FF XIII coming out around the same time might have had something to do with that.) Franchise has a really huge fanbase, has had a lot of anime adaptations (though apparently when it comes to those your choice is between ones that aren't good and ones that you need to play the games to enjoy). Gameplay is a mix between dating sim and tactical rpg. Quite famously the creator has banned the franchise from ever being part of SRW because of personal preference and that to do so would require the cast to kill human opponents.

So I am playing the worst one in the entire series AND one that is considered non-canonical?

Huh... Well I might need to find a good tactical turn based game for the PS2 then.

So it is part Dating Sim?

Ok, time to suppress my personality to trick girls into liking me!

Oh it's canonical. It's just the worst. From what I've heard the first two games were the best

Maybe try asking? Never had a PS2 or a computer strong enough to decently run the emulator, so I can't help y'much, there. I've always wanted to play Soul Nomad, but it's not quite turn based iirc. The disgaea line and related stuff (La Pucelle) are some of the more obvious ones, but those might not meet your qualification for good :P

Disgaea and Soul Nomad are good games, they just aren't strategy games so to speak.

Plus I own them. By the way if you are bored with Soul Nomad... go down the Demon Path... It actually is the most interesting and well written path. So much so I'd love to play the demon path in reverse.

I also owned Front Mission 4 and Ring of Red. Fun!

Well, if it makes you feel better, if you still like it, it being the worst just means there's nowhere to go but up.

Of course, even with that, good luck finding the first four games in anything that isn't Japanese.  I think your only options are Russian (first two only) and maybe Korean (but I might be confusing it with Princess Maker, another niche five-game series that only ever saw one game translated into English).

Man, Princess Maker 2 is so damn hype. No other game lets you train a little girl to beat up gods, murder pedophiles, become the best chef in the land, and marry Satan.

... probably a few others out there that let you give a teenager breast enlargement pills and cause her to shack up with her father (figure, whatever) :P

The monsters in that thing had some incredible faces, though. I've got a handful saved somewhere as possible avatar pics, ha.

It also kicks into incest mode once the first arc is over with, so yeah maybe just watch that.
It definitely hints, but I wouldn't say that it goes really any farther than that (and even that doesn't last long). The fact that there is an outright canon love interest by the end of the first arc sorta relegates any other relationship teases to the "if you ever leave this person then I'm going for them" realm (which certainly happens enough in the real world).

As for Log Horizon, I never really got into it just because it seemed like they hadn't fully accounted for just what the inability to die would do. Like with the bandit guy they end up playing his defeat up like it's this huge thing when it happens (if they changed later I apologize, I didn't get too far beyond this) when in reality all they did was slightly inconvenienced him with a level penalty (even less so if players give xp, which would mean he would just have to sit outside and farm players for an hour or so). The fact that the only way to beat a large group of people at their own city would be to somehow imprison them with no way for them to get killed or kill themselves (else they would just keep perma-respawning at the cathedral, meaning you'd be facing a loss by 1000 cuts from them, while your people spawned back at your cathedral several days away) didn't seem like it was really being considered.

It looks like you didn't watch far enough, or you're making huge assumptions about what happens at the end of that arc (episode 5).

Most of those points miss the mark completely. Their goal wasn't to kill him in the first place or permanently defeat the enemies, it was a rescue, which succeeded, so they couldn't give a shit whether he perma-died or not, as long as he got out of the way long enough for them to escape. So, killing him was never a plot point, he was just in the way and needed to be not in the way. Inconvenience someone for 1 hour is plenty when all you want to do is rescue 1 person. They temporarily confuse the enemies and get the hell out of there, because the show HAS fully considered the fact that the enemy cannot be killed. Those guys remain in charge of their fascist little city as the show goes on ...

I recommend keep watching Log Horizon, because it's not really about battles at all, the first battle was just to fill the viewer in a little about how the game mechanics works.

Well she is adopted. So that whole "getting it on with your daughter" part? Perfectly legal in the USA

If genetic relationship is the only issue you have with parent-child incest it might be time to rethink your priorities. Also not legal, because minor.

Of course I can never take conversations about PM entirely seriously just because I keep flashing back to that LP where the PC was Gendo Ikari...

Nothing happens until after the game itself is over, and that happens when the girl turns 18. Before that the only trigger is "be nice" and for her not to have any other potential love interests.
