I couldn't watch that shit. The first episode spend something like a quarter of the airtime with Illya in the bath/wearing a towel/whatever, plus the predictable incest-fetish teasing, and maybe fifteen or twenty seconds being interesting. Is there really enough decent material in it to be worth watching in spite of that?

I would have to say, "No." I actually quit halfway into the first episode because of exactly this.

Then, I had nothing productive to do for a month, and I got really bored. It's better than nothing, at least, because when you're bored enough you'll work hard to extract the value from whatever you've got. That said, the fanservice does drop off pretty sharply after the first episode or two, but it never disappears - and then Season 2 happens, which is as bad or worse. (Spoiler alert, by the way)

Seriously, would it have killed them to choose between "Protagonist is (or at least, appears to be and everybody believes she is) 10" and "Fanservice out the ass"?

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

You see from what I heard and comparing the timescale to the manga. Season 2 sounds like it cut off right when it was getting to the good part.

...though yes the fanservice is completely ridiculous and I can fully understand why it would be unwatchable as a result.

Yeah, and I'll be fair, here - fanservice aside, it's actually just a pretty high quality, straightforward show set in what continues to be a fantastic setting marred only by the stories that get told in it. But, if you're like me, you really have to work to get through the obstacles it puts out for you, in this case the fanservice, and whether that's worth it is pretty much up to you.

... which makes me glad there's no obstacles for me, haha!

Honestly, it's probably a good thing I don't actually watch much anime and have a definite preference towards the salacious in my entertainment. Even after well over a decade of fairly regular interaction with stuff of such nature, I'm still happily not burnt out. Or at least haven't managed to do so more than temporarily.

I barely even notice, some days. The first half of ep. 7 just had me kinda' cheerfully grinning.

... but yeah, those not desensitized to the stuff baug's (rightfully) complaining about might should stay away. I can't blame them, but I have no shame maintaining my original statement, either.

I mean, I'm pretty desensitized to fanservice, not least because I've reached that stage of "meh, it's something to do" a couple times, plus all of the "Okay, that's half of the first episode and I'm done with this now" shows. Doesn't mean that it's not still creepy and annoying. Same deal as how "ordinary teen falls into cockpit, becomes ace pilot" is a painfully tired cliche, but it's tolerable if the series can stand on its own merits. S'like, I can tolerate fanservice to absurd degrees if there's something even mildly worthwhile underneath it -- I managed to read through Negima to the end, if that says anything (and don't get me fucking started on how creepy so much of that was, especially with the whole double-standard issue lurking in the wings; heh, I recall one particularly brave soul who did a rewrite of the series with everyone genderflipped, at least in part to make a point IIRC) -- but when it's literally just "Here's an underaged girl doing things with a bunch of discretion shots. Oh, right and something something plot credits bye."  ::)

Bauglir hit it on the head for me as well, I think. Just the premise alone with the kaleidosticks rebelling could have made for an interesting show, regardless of whether it was set in that corner of that 'verse, so it feels like the fact that it was (especially combined with the fanservice) means that pretty much the sole purpose was as wank material, both literally and metaphorically.

I've finally started watching MS Igloo, and I'm realizing just why Zeon ends up losing the war, so many good designs thrown away and wasted for shitty things like a tank with a fixed, front facing main cannon that turns into a fighter :I

Since almost the entire point of the show is to appeal to paedophiles, yeah, I think it would.

Someone recommended just watching the Archer vs Saber fight from Prisma, that was pretty cool plus it has yet another remix of the best song.  It still has some cheap sexualization of the kind that Fate usually avoids though.

What I was going to say this morning before I had to leave was that Zeon didn't use the Magella much anyhow because by the time the invasion of Earth they were already outdated. They don't appear much in any of the shows, though the wiki says it was still their MBT during the One Year War. And you'll get to see how Fed tanks measure up to mobile suits in a stand up fight later in the OVA.

Also they used the combat data from the Hildolfir experiment to make this: http://gundam.wikia.com/wiki/YMS-16M_Xamel

Does Build Fighters get any better? I've seen the first 6 episodes and it's not bad, but it's not keeping me interested.

Episode 6 is the moment that hints at the coolness the show will have in the future. And then it becomes amazing come episodes 14 and 15. So yes, yes it does.

.... Damn, I seriously can't bring myself to continue watching many animes past 1 or 2 episodes these days.

Also, episode 21-22 of fairy tail 2014.  Lots of screaming and yelling posturing.  Stuff happens, more screaming and yelling.  Retcon, with a healthy dose of screaming and yelling.  (Kinda cruel and hilarious for the lady to think she did not change anything...). There is also that standing their to obviously be eaten moment.
