The original season of SEED was mediocre-at-best. SEED Destiny was unredeemable crap that stains SEED through association.

True it is rare to find an anime so bad it actually manages to make another anime worse just by existing.

Is there a good macross? The original show doesn't do it for me.

The original (not the Robotech cut) is ok, the movie shortens it down for those that don't want to watch it all, Macross Plus is a great OVA that everyone should watch along with Zero. Frontier isn't bad but its not my favorite.

Macross 7. Woot.

But seriously, GUNINANRUNIN you should try Plus, Zero, Frontier in that order. Plus and Zero are about 5 eps each, and Frontier is 25 eps.

That OP, though. S'the sort of thing that sticks with you.

Also, Big O for Japanese mecha-pilot Batman.

Knights of Sidonia looks interesting; can't say yet though.

Gurren Lagann is a good one, if somewhat silly.

The first two Evangelion movies are extremely good, and the rest of the series is certainly a thing.  I enjoyed it, but lots of people didn't.

I've just finished reading a manga series called "Eden: it's an endless world!", and after all the rampant sex, violence, darkness, philosophising, darkness, religion, puppy-kicking act of evil, violence, dysfunctional characters, tragic backstories, incoprehensible plot, surprisingly accurate quantum physics and the author ranting about something tangenially related to his work at the end of each volume, I can say that it's probably the most mediocre fiction I've ever read. A very nice plot is marred by the rampant usage of contrivancies and gratuitious philosophy lessons, characters are deep and well developed, but thoroughly, irredimably villanous almost without exception (who is a radical islamic terrorist, amusingly enough) an thus as uninteresting to the reader as if they were utterly flat and the setting is fell thought-out, but cliched, having been used in most other cyberpunk works before. Artwork and action are most commendable, though, I would advice any beginning manga writer to use them as a reference.

Well since I have to wait till next week for the airing of the new season, I need something else to watch.

How's Nobunaga the Fool? Or should I finally watch Neon Genesis Evangelion?

Now that my rant is over, could anybody recommend me a cyberpunk anime with a likeable protagonist? I'm getting tired of antiheroes.

Yes, but be warned, you have to seriously pay attention if you want to understand what happens.

The anime is just a huge "Your mileage may vary" personified.

To some it is a end of the world epic about the depth of a truly depraved mind and a struggle of biblical proportions.

To others it is a end of the world plot sidetracked by a deplorable and whiny character who shouldn't be the focus and a struggle that is all symbolism but no real substance.

Not saying the second one is right, I just needed more words to describe what someone who didn't like it would see... then someone who just outright liked it.

One of my favorite '80's ones was Genesis Climber Mospeada, which was used as season 3 of Robotech.

Nobunaga is one of the silliest/most gung-ho mecha series of recent years. Mixes legendary, historical and fictional characters from East and West together, sometimes blending multiple personages together or combining a fictional character and a historical person into one character.

The plot for the first couple of episodes reads something like
there are a ton more characters and factions in the mix that I left out of that synopsis though, so it's definitely a show with a lot of crap going on. It's a show where general historical and literature knowledge will help things make a lot more sense, as well as looking up all the different character's names in wikipedia.
