The original light novel written by the author didn't have any of the silica, lisbeth or yui sections, because it had to be really short. It also concluded right after the end of SAO, with Kirito waking up. For reference, SAO is Sword art online, ALO is Alfheim online, and GGO is Gun gale online, and then there is UW which is Underworld. One of thefinal scenes in ALO in the anime with the whole main arc villain slowly removes the female characters clothing while the male watches helpless was rather disturbing and quite unnecessary.

I've started watching D. Grey Man on Netflix. It's pretty good, but the English voice actor for the lead is somewhat annoying, as he also did the voice of the lead in Sgt Frog. In both shows, the lead tends to break out in screaming rants, and that triggers the similarity enough to be jarring.

Which is kind of funny. I've heard people complaining about Funimation's small voice pool for a long time, but this is the first time I ever noticed it.

Honestly I just gave up in disgust once the first part of the story ended. It's like the author got bored with his good idea and decided to skip to the end so that he could start a new story full of creepy fetishism and trite, tired plot. Seriously, the elf part is an absolute rotting gem. Let's count:

1. Interesting, competent character is reduced to helpless pretty princess to drive the plot. One point for lazy, one for creatively bankrupt.
2. Corrupt businessman takes comatose girl hostage, threatens to rape her, makes gloating monologues. One point each for creepy, creatively bankrupt, and lazy author.
3. Setting is pretty much a copy of the last one, except with more pointless fluff and no sense of danger or exploration of morality. Let's make that one point each for lazy and creatively bankrupt author.
4. "That fucking Japanese hangup again", AKA "We have the hots for each other and we are for all intents and purposes siblings, but it's okay because we're actually (first) cousins, even if there is also a fairly large age gap!", make that one point each for creatively bankrupt and creepy.
5. Kirito gets to keep all of his bullshit powers from SAO because author didn't want to have to detail him doing things to improve. Lazy. So lazy. I have no words for how lazy this is. It's almost like SAO wasn't plotted out ahead of time, so the power levels bloated too much for it to continue all the way up the tower, but the author didn't want to start over for the next part.

And I'm too put-out to continue. Eh, I stopped watching a few episodes after the SAO part of SAO ended anyways. :/

See, I'd been warned against the second season, and was only watching the first against my own better judgement. So I figured I was just going to watch however much of the first season I felt like, it'd range from kinda dumb to seethingly stupid, and then I'd stop. For the most part, this is exactly what happened, including the first season giving me no reason to doubt that the second would be infinitely stupider and less worth watching than the first.

But then I decided to watch the first episode of the next season just to see what was up (I think I may have noticed that they were elves already). So what do I get but SAME THING EXCEPT ELVES NOW and OH NO CREEPY BUSINESSMAN ENGAGED TO YOUR GIRLFRIEND.

It was perfect. Absolutely flawless way to cap off the series by way of saying OKAY WE'RE GETTING REALLY DUMB NOW SO YOU KNOW IF YOU'RE DESPERATE FOR MORE IN ANY FORM HERE WE ARE OTHERWISE UHHHHH


If you really liked S1 and were hoping for more, I can see how it'd be... well, a stereotypically bad sequel, basically. But for someone who wasn't that into it and was getting off anyway, it was really the best "ending" I could've hoped for.
