Anyway... it depends entirely on what you regard her win condition as, right?  Battler made it pretty clear he wouldn't accept witches no matter what the evidence for them at the end of ep4.  So... could there be some other way...?

No. If Battler wins then he and his entire family are dead, with the possibility of one survivor because that means everyone murdered everyone and thus Beato doesn't become a real witch and cannot bring everyone back.

It isn't the "Win conditions" that are a concern it is the lose condition. If Beato loses it is the worst case scenario for everyone.

Ultimately if the series continued I think it would have changed either to one side giving in more, or a new condition being met to entrap the outside manipulators.

MIND you... I realise that Battler is a plant and may not even be the real Battler if there ever was one (good chance he is Beato's son somehow...)

Yes, basically.  In the same way that ep3 and ep4 are completely different to ep1 and ep2, the next two episodes are completely different to the last.

Well, he's definitely an Ushiromiya Battler.  Just not the one born to Ushiromiya Asumu.

Although the idea that his mother is Beatrice is ridiculous.  I mean, Beatrice fell off a cliff, right?  And Battler's mother (who's possibly unmentioned in the anime?) was apparently terrified of falling and... ah.

Prepare for a slice-of-life manga that deviates HARD. I'm talking they changed course so hard they ended up in a different genre.
I'm not sure it's going to end in tears for me. I don't know how to handle the content.

That said, it's 1001% NSFW/NSFC. I had to stop reading it from a manga app on my phone during class because anyone who looked over my shoulder would freak out.

So I was watching the non-anime show "Jem and the holograms" (AKA: Jem)

and the main villain "Eric" set himself up to fail rather early by just being outragously evil.

Where a coy or subtle villain could have easily won, Eric messes up by being truely outragous and evil.

So here is the Anime challenge of the day!

A Anime Villain who could have succeeded IF he or she was just a little less evil!

A rule of thumb though. You cannot change their goal.

My example?

Beato from Umineko: Were she just a LITTLE less evil (or crazy) she could have reasonably won because Battler wouldn't have opposed her so strongly.

Battler wouldn't have regained his strength after seeing his aunt forced to canibalise his entire family, The pretend to be nice plot would have worked because she wouldn't have dropped her acting last second..

OF COURSE this ignores the chance that Beato failed intentionally.

Not sure if it quite counts as anime, but several Phoenix Wright villains instantly spring to mind.  Other than that the two tropes that most clearly fit are "I'll let you live so you I can watch you suffer more" and "I will tell you my horribly evil plan while not noticing that my loyal followers are listening".

It might be that there was a trigger that forced her to drop her pretend to be nice plot (my favourite is "She has no idea how to spell 'Beatrice' in English so she has to drop her act or be revealed as a fake").  Although "She didn't want it to end like that" is another possibility.

Been reading Berserk.
Very good. Why did I put this off for so long?

I don't want to spoil anything, and I don't mean to try to sway your opinion, but I found that the manga is much better when covering the events of the anime, and a little while later, but at a certain point, the quality just dropped to inexcusably bad levels, and the appeal of the show dissolves almost completely.

Let me know if you experience this same thing.

I just finished up reading what's currently out, and I have to say that I disagree pretty strongly with your opinion.
I've noticed no drop in quality at all, anywhere throughout the story. In fact, I like it even more than when I started reading it.

At the point where the slender rapier dude, the girl that used to be a sadistic fetishist, the little magical girl, and Guts, have formed their nakama and are walking down the country road, only to be assailed by trolls, as if they were a common menace to society.
