It's funny. I hear so many people complainig about anime's being too long, and my biggest pet peeve in the medium is the 12-episode season.

(Then again, the first thing i said when I finished reading The Wheel Of Time series was "not bad, but it's too short")

Yeahhh.

I'm about to watch the final episode. This shit does not make any sense at all ever.

I mean, it sort of kind of held a cohesive story together for the first half, even if it was a batshit crazy story. But in the second half it just goes off the deep end into utter nonsense.
Yep.

I think it doesn't quite finish since there are still, like, 2 visual novels after the anime series ends.  So... yeah.  Since it's a When They Cry series, though, there'll NEVER be any definitive answers.

Length of series is hard. It has to be long enough to tell your story, but if you get to verbose its fucking dry. I try to shoot for the length so that the audience goes 'I wish there was more of this.'

There are eight visual novels in the Umineko series; four question arcs, four answer arcs. So far six have been released, and five translated. I strongly recommend reading the novels instead of watching the anime, as they're far better (google The Witch Hunt); however, there will probably be a second season of the anime once the novels are complete.

Oh, and you probably knew this already, but Umineko is set in the same multiverse as Higurashi. Nothing very explicit is stated (though I could make a lot of educated guesses), but if you want to try figuring it out for yourself, make sure to watch Higurashi Rei.

Didn't Bernkastel explicitly state in novels that she's some kind of Rika tho? Same for Rika in Higurashi Rei.

Also, Umineko anime was horrible. Novels are much more awesome.

"Some kind of Rika", indeed. No, she's the real thing, even if she doesn't quite want to admit she's the same person. Just.. don't think too much about what kind of story could turn Rika into Bernkastel.

Those dead eyes.. *shudder*  :'(

Make sure you look up the various letters and diaries attached to the story. Bernkastel's Letter (to Hanyuu), in particular, is very damning.

Oh... a fanmade patch that translates a copy of the game?  Interesting.  I'll take a look at the demo.

Uh... does anyone know what the term "Visual Novel" is actually supposed to mean?  I mean, surely "visual novel" implies a comic book rather than a game.

Visual Novel is actually an accurate translation. Remember that to the Japanese, Comic Books are 'Manga'.

The basic problem is translation issues; in English, the term 'Novel' implies paper. In Japanese, the word that translates into 'Novel' (which i can't remember atm) does not. Ergo a word document is a Novel, as is a book. Since books with pictures are already Manga, the term Visual Novel therefore refers to word documents with pictures; which usually means computer game.

Oh, right... sortof... picture book like, I guess?  Reminds me of the cutscenes from Advanced Wars, somehow.

To confuse things further, Ryuukishi07 (that is, the author) likes to refer to the When They Cry series as "Sound Novels".   ???

Ironically i've actually had better results with Gogoanime or Goodanime than TT; TT seems to always link me to files that no longer exist.

Generally though i look for the home site of whoever is fansubbing it and use whatever links they provide.

Oh, and if you like Studio Ghibli, you really need to watch The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.  It's a phenomenal film, won't take too much of your time, and is a bit Ghibli-esque.  Give it a try, and tell me what you think!

Thank you very much, I'll be sure to try that. :D

BakaBT for completed series and AnimeSuki for ongoing series, for me.

Generally though i look for the home site of whoever is fansubbing it and use whatever links they provide.

Usually this works well, but older series tend to suffer from a lack of seeds.
