I started watching DBZ.

Take notes. It's chaotic. But hilariously awesome.

What notes could you possibly need? I never thought of DBZ as a show with an intricate web of narrative that you needed to pay attention to.

I just watched all of Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Pailsen Files. It was a pretty good show, especially the opening music and the fight scenes.

The character relationships are actually pretty non-trivial, but it's pretty unnecessary for enjoyment to actually understand why anyone in the show is doing anything.

I'd say that is true mostly because "Character" is just a thing that happens incidentally.

The other thing I am noticing is how unoften these boxers see a doctor. Given what little I know about boxing, a lot of these blows they are showing easily could be fatal. Especially since quite a few of them have been knocked cold for several minutes.

It is odd that I am often like "well he will have to see a doctor" and then he doesn't. I am just waiting for one of these boxers to actually have a real injury after a fight. I don't think the anime is so dark as to give the boxers an infarction (one of the major reasons boxers get examined...), but I suspect there will be a real injury eventually.

Also doing a bit of actual research I find that they hilariously break a few rules on people who are knocked unconscious (such as throwing water on them)... but in all fairness given the age of the anime and the fact that these are mostly run down gyms it makes sense.

YEAH 50 episodes in and FINALLY someone acknowledges Ippo's supreme learning/conditioning speed.

Neither am I. Kantai Collection is pretty Touhou made by a major company instead of one guy, so it's obvious that they'd be pushing the merchandise/tie-in products/whatever pretty heavily. Making an anime is just a simple and obvious jump from official merchandise.
