What I really want to read is Ashita no Joe. I think you might like that better, Neonivek.

Ohhh I actually do like the Ippo anime.

It is Miyata and uhhhh... "The Shotgun" fight.

What discredit am I doing beyond saying that the anime goes WAY too far to try to discredit Ippo and make him seem a lot less capable then what he really is.

Nobody else makes that connection. What you're missing is that this idea that he's no good - it's all in Ippo's head, it actual adds a lot to the series in my mind. Ippo is the only guy who doesn't think he can do it. He's the one telling himself he's the underdog constantly. It's psychological. Sure, you get a bit from opponents saying they're gonna kick his ass etc, but that's to be expected, psych yourself up, psych the other guy out.

And the first season covers way more than one year, he's definitely about 22-24 by the end of the original anime's run of 75 eps, the time period the whole thing covers is a plus in my book, he starts when he's a student, graduates then goes on to a professional career.

The later seasons slow the pace though, and mainly look at the careers of his fellow boxers.

Well... I am only aware of... 1 + 3 + 1 + 1... about 6 months passing so far. Since they actually give time.

But I am only counting the Rookie Cup arc.

In ep41, he's remembering his match for the pro license qualifier, and he says "it's already been two years". This is after winning the JBC and graduating high school.

Really don't read this because major spoilers. There are flashbacks later for the other boxers lives and reading the early timeline will spoil these plots.

http://ippo.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline

it's got month/year for all events from the manga.

- April 1990, Ippo met Takamura
- November 1990 Ippo gets license (6 months passed)
- June 1991, start of the rookie tournament
- dec 1991, end of the rookie tournament

So, this source counts it as 14 months by the time the rookie championship started, 20 months by the end. Ippo's birthday is officially Nov 23rd, 1973, so he's 16 when the series starts, 17 when the tournament starts and turns 18 before it finishes.

this timeline puts ep 75 at ~November of 1993, so 3.5 years for season 1, with him turning around 20 by them.

Ehhh, I'll just remember it.

So when someone goes "Why did she have to give up?" I'll go "because she is a woman, and that is why she will never have the taste for battle" and they won't be able to say anything because in their hearts they will know it is true.

Though yeah I am incredibly pissed off on many levels. So long as they don't make Hoshino lose for some sexist reason or throw her under the bus, I'll be fine.
