Doesn't require as much power, no recharge, precision, easier varied load, and can't be beaten by a giant mirror.

Well, it's a good thing that we already look for big chunks of rock aiming for us, and have the capabilities to divert them.

Well, it's a good thing that we already look for big chunks of rock aiming for us, and have the capabilities to divert them.

Won't work; you'd just end up with a big ball of smaller chunks hitting the planet, which would actually be worse.

Asteriods are extremely brittle and crumbly, a sudden impact will shatter them.


If you want to push an Asteroid off course, you need to go attach a jet to it, and that requires that you see it in time, which you probably won't.
