I assaulted the elite bowman in the human town with my first dwarf. Now every time I start up from the dwarven city where my first dwarf started and travel to the town the human Announces himself, curses my first dwarves name, declares his intent to kill me, and then shoots me.

Did I start a human-dwarf war?

I hope so.  That would be cool.  Try starting a fortress in that area, and see how the humans react.

Second summer has gone by and no caravan. I think they really are angry at them.

Was there a big red WAR indicator on the neighboring civs screen on the embark menu?

Do you have the see all history option enabled?  If so you could tell very easily.

Failing that... build a fortress IN the human town and see what happens!

I heard this wasn't possible yet, in fact there was a huge debate about it about a month or two back.

I'm pretty sure you CAN start wars, or at least turn civs hostile against each other.  I've rolled up a human and attacked another human civ, and then I started arriving in towns and seeing combat announcements from human guards slaughtering human merchants and their animals.

This won't start an official war that carries over to fortress mode.......yet. But at least if you recruit a bunch of dwarves from your own civ, and take them to the human town, you get an epic dorf vs. human battle. Once you kill enough of the humans in that town, you become hostile with that kingom. Take your dwarven friends, and exterminate all the humans!

Make sure everyone is kitted out in steel plate and get everyone to shout 'EXTERMINATE!' as you do so.

I really, really can't wait until I can make everyone be at war with me by attacking them. Especially those bloody elves...

I thought elves zerg?
I mean, they're cheap and wimpy enough as is...
