[NAME:bake clay blocks]
[SMELTER]
[REAGENT:1:STONE:NO_SUBTYPE:STONE:CLAY]
[PRODUCT:100:1:BLOCKS:NO_SUBTYPE:STONE:CLAY]

Clay would need to become a stone first, no?

That would work, but if you had clay stone you could just use the mason's shop to make the blocks.
You could simply add the stone tag to the clay.

Oh yeah, when I started this I kinda forgot that soil doesn't leave behind stones.

I guess I could make clay a sand type and use the smelter to make blocks from bags of clay. I could also just make glass from it then, but that's not the same.

Close, you remove the [SOIL] tag and it becomes regular stone by default.

That's not a bad idea.  Reagent tag should be interesting, does sand fall under MISC_POWDER or what?  Too bad you can't itemgloss clay blocks as "bricks," like the game automatically glosses glass doors as "portals."
