So why can't these guys embark with axes?

So I'm making a creature with an entity file...and I'd like them to be able to embark with axes (if I can't embark with axes, they're basically unplayable)
Do I need to add [stone_pref] or something like that?

I'm not sure but does [WOOD_PREF] have anything to do with it?

It might, but I'm pretty sure it also allows me to embark with wooden swords and the like.
I might add [METAL_PREF] and see if it works...

wood_pref was my thought too- but I haven't played around with wood pref in playable civs.

I'm not sure if wood_pref and metal_pref would play nicely together.

stone_pref and metal_pref are allowed together with dwarves, I don't see how having wood instead of stone will make a major difference...I guess I'll try it.
Either that, or I could make wooden axes...but I'm not sure how to do that...

I just tried adding wood pref to a race and they were able embark with wooden axes, I'm not sure why yours won't work. Were you able to pick other wooden weapons?

Yes, I am.
I added metal_pref and I can embark with wood axes now as well.
I think I'll remove metal_pref and see if I can still embark with wooden axes. If I can, then the entity is (almost) complete.

EDIT: They embark with wood axes now. I'm not sure what changed but I have a feeling that never would have happened if you guys hadn't helped me. Thanks :)

Also - I'm not even sure you will be able to make wooden weapons (other than ranged) in fortress mode. I don't think that functionality has been added in yet.

That won't be a problem, I usually end up relying on caravans for my weapons anyways.

You can only make wooden melee weapons right now with a kludge - making them ranged weapons with a custom ammo that you never make, then making them out of wood or bone at the bowyer. Of course, the token ammo will take up space in caravans, unfortunately, but it's minor.

It shouldn't take up space if none of the entities have the ability to make it.
