Request for custom race.
« on: September 10, 2008, 08:01:51 pm »

I would like some epic vampiric monstrous creature for play now mode, something that willwork in Legendary lands, I would enjoy it to be humanoid, able to fly. And would like many different attacks that's something other then slash or bite, perhaps a attack that describes it biting and says it feeds?, try to make sure it won't be killed just because of some damn archer, Thank you.

Oh, and perhaps have it larger then a human or a elf.

Against everything I stand for, fine.

I strongly suggest you take a look at the wiki and learn how to mod your own mods, though. It's not that hard.

Beginner's guide to modding.

Modding in general.

I threw together a combination of a race from a mod I'm working on, the example race in the modding guide, and vampirelike characteristics. I'm testing them right now, to make sure they work.

The biggest problem I've had with making new monsters was rainbow symbols. The ASCII character would change colors every now and then.

I think I had the color set to 128 or something.

...whoah, whoah, whoah, hold on a minute. Exactly what did you set to "128?"

I have a feeling you may have just inadvertently stumbled onto a new discovery.

My gods, the Arachnids?!  They're already stony enough with size 15, damblock 10, webbing, and paralysis.  What are you adding?

Coincidentally, I added a second set of arms, terminating in sickles (non-GRASP) that do slash damage, and regularly dismember.Good times!  Now if Toady adds racial abilities during the combat development phase, like webbing and dragon breath....

They make a great town civ to compete with the humans (only way I can get Steel Arachnidine Chain Mail in their size).  Just start 'em in deserts.

Sorry, I was referring to the entity files, not the creature files. They are nothing like those damned arthropods.

Alright, I think I figured out what Steelion was referring to. It's friggin' awesome. I'm putting the vampire project on hold for the moment while I do more research.

A quick experiment with cats suggests that it's probably the graphics routines not knowing what to do with such an odd colour, and defaulting to the last selected (valid) colour instead.  One effect of this is that a creature will take on the colour of the tile it's walking on.

Yeah, but that's just the half of it. I'll explain more in a new topic.

That's very interesting, it could mean stealthy creatures.

Only stealthy to the player. The game wouldn't notice the difference.

if you haven't noticed, dwarves and demonic creatures (elves) actualy do things for very boring, predictable reasons...
the whole fun of the game is to make up reasons why they killed that puppy, or how they threw the zombie penguin into that magma pool...
this is just a wordy way of saying that it dosn't mater if the game dosn't see a creature as invisible, our perceptions are all that matter, because they shape the game!!!
