Mechanic Wall
« on: September 09, 2008, 05:58:57 am »

i want a wall that acts as an power line. so for as an wall with inbuild gear assembly but only acts n-s or e-w

it should consume a stone/wood/metal/whatever the wall is made off and a mechanic gear

to construct there is needed architecture then the mason/carpenterer/metalsmithg and the mechanic

it consumes it self 2 power

i just want a secure way to build axels through walls without making 4 power supplys to an upper level around the wall, so that no dwarfs/goblins run through it

If I understand this correctly, you're suggesting a wall segment that acts as a gear assembly?

Would make it easier to send power through a solid barrier without complicated force diversions, I'll admit.

Sounds like a floodgate type affair to me.  (Can floodgates transmit power?)

one end of the pump counts as wall if i remember right,
you could use this as substitute for 10 power

but I am in favor of this idea too :)

Potentially unbalancing, but I like it.

Id love anything that allows me to skip the HORRIFIC mechanical knowledge I need to get power to work as it is.

Though it needs to be called something better then a "Mechanic Wall"

How about a non-screwing-bottom-half-of-the-screw-pump? :)

it should just work as a 1 tile horizontal axle.

(sideview)
Code: [Select]
z+2 .....  .....
z+1 .x-x.  .....
z=0 -xWx-  --W--
    _____  _____

-horzinzal axle
x assembly gear
W wall
. open space
_ floor
now you need this complex thing to get power through an wall without making the wall accessibla by walking enemys. the second one is the thing i want :>

If it's possible in the current engine, letting axles and fortifications occupy the same space would solve the problem without new awkwardly named constructions. Build an axle, and then build a fortification on it. Or for extra realism, build a fortification, and then build an axle through it.

That is, if we want to solve the problem. I think a large, important, power-transferring axle should be a weak point just waiting for a goblin horde to sneak in.

The mechanics collection (see my sig) has a waterproof axel square that accomplishes the same purpose, although I'm leaning more towards creating a wall on the square or else making it draw appreciable power.

I think that Soadreqm is right, but it doesn't solve the 'need' (desire) for a waterproof transferal.  As far as vulnerability goes, I think having a single constructed wall in their way shouldn't be much of a deterent (compared to the trap lined death trail the front door is).
