Or if you started in year 4, like 2 years.

Goblins are a form of demon and thus immortal.

Elves are immortal too, so...

Elf=Demon

Well, Elves are immortal anyway. So probably not.

Anyway I take it back, goblins are probably just immortal becuase their still counted as animals.

Or because they lack [MAXAGE=x]

exactly. all animals have "maxage=" but goblins don't. Either toady accidentally made a mistake (likely, given everything else he has to focus on) or goblins truly do live forever. Given that I visit gob fortresses in adventure mode that are only sparsely populated by goblins, I'm guessing that their reproduction rate must be WAY down. I'm going to check raws for verification.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

I found out, to my dismay, that goblins don't need food. They were assaulting my soldierless fort, so i raised my bridgeapult when they stood on it, and one of them landed on a 1x5 wall i had built near my entrance. Dwarves couldn't leave the fort since they were interrupted by that goblin. I had hoped that he would starve to death... but it doesn't seem to work that way. xD

Fortunately, a caravan came a while after and shot him down. :P

Another thing about magical characters in fort mode: They can fly, but that's not very useful due to the AI.

Once tried to conquer Earth, and succeeded! Too bad it got really, really boring, really, really fast.

One day, we shall all look back on this, and laugh. Sorry about the face, by the way, and the legs, and the eyes, and the arms. In fact, sorry 'bout the whole body.

oh my god! I just killed an entire goblin fortress in Adventure mode by EXISTING. The temperature is freezing so they all died (including the demon in charge freezing to death)  just because I was standing there. I'm glad I've never set up a DF in freezing conditions!

Haha, we need Toady to fix that.

Well, you could always use an old version if you wanted to do that.  If we were in the future.

I'm guessing the goblin's immortality is something to do with their habit of getting themselves killed in pointless battles and crippling their own populations.

Elves are immortal too, so...

Elf=Demon
Or Demon=Elf
Goblins are a form of demon and thus immortal.
Then Goblin=Elf too.

It all starts to make sense now...
