The rain on this site has never stopped. It's a major drain on my FPS.

Did you turn off weather after it started raining? I did that once and the rain kept coming until I turned weather back on.

Yeah, I turned it back on later, but it kept coming.

Sounds like it's a bug with rain not ending properly if weather is turned off? Mine eventually stopped after a year or so after I turned weather back on, but it did take a while. I assume it only stopped once it started and stopped again, but I could be wrong.

I had turned it off to see if FPS would speed up, but I turned it off DURING the rain and it just kept on raining.

In a past version (still 3D though) I had a similar experience and asked about it.  Apparently some regions simply have constant rainfall.  Toady likened them to rainforests.

In other words, feature.  Not bug.

Strange that it was a sand desert.

A desert with endless rain that still remains a desert? It must have some damn good drainage to be so dry with all the water :)

Eh.  Mine was a swamp.  Your desert probably does have stupidly high drainage.

Heh, I was hinting at the fact that is NOT a feature, it's a bug. I had the same thing on a plains map. I was getting rain once a year, and one year during the rain I noticed my fps was going down due to it, so turned weather off. Then the rain didn't stop. I turned it back on, and it took a whole year for the rain to stop - or it could have been a bit over a year? I can't remember.

In my head, that post sufficed as a "so I was wrong."

Anyway, I suspected that perhaps the problem was that the region was still considered a desert on account of its drainage even though the rainfall was excessive.  If it can also happen in shrubland/grassland/whatever, it's probably instead just a weather bug.

Maybe rain stops on a specific day of specific month instead of after X minutes

That's what I was thinking.  Fort had to go all the way around the calendar again, if you turned weather back on after that date.
