Perfect designing program
« on: August 29, 2008, 01:38:45 pm »

I've found the perfect program for designing your fortress interiors. There's no need for drawing it all out yourselves, because that way, the 3D-aspect is lost or very hard to mimic. Especially when you're building something enormous, or difficult to achieve in a block-based universe, such as domes. There's no need to buy cartloads of Legos to be able to build that grand dining hall with a Royal dining balcony seven levels above the commoners level. Not when you can use digital blocks.
Not with BlockCad. This handy little program has all of the benefits of Legos without the annoying fact that you're half way through building that Byzantine cathedral with the large golden dome on top just to find out, you've only got a handful of bricks left.

Just to let you know, it's not "Legos" but "Lego". You see, Lego is an uncountable noun, just like sugar, sand, air, etc. You can't have two sands, and you can't have two Legos. You can't build a castle out of sands, nor can you build one out of Legos. You CAN, however, have two grains of sand, or two bricks of Lego, as in this case it is the "grains" and "bricks" which are being counted.

I always called them legos for a plural as a kid.  :-\

I'm sorry, but the english language already has too many words that are both singular and plural. We don't need another one.

Maybe plural could be legi?

Pff...real Dwarves just estimate it, start digging, and make corrections after the cave-in.

After all, dig twice, cart the bodies away once.

The dwarven economy is just a stand-in, from what I understand. As it is, it represents an actual economic system about as well as poison ivy represents a salad.

In this case you would actually say two Lego bricks, not two bricks Lego.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

Lego Company frowns upon saying "LEGOs". They stress that it's a descriptor, giving more detail to the "bricks". Thus, "LEGO bricks", "LEGO sets", etc.

And I'd use MLCad or even LDD for this - at least they've been around the LEGO community forever....

Eh.  It's a safe download, and an interesting approach, packed into a conveniently small box.  However, it's not entirely intuitive in it's layout.

MSPaint works just as well when you use View > Zoom > Custom > 800% and press alt+G for a grid.  Plus, you can save it as a common file format for use on several programs for easy sharing and communal alteration.

Example:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But showing such images is hell on people wanting to know how things look. Remember kids: When showing off fortresses with MSpaint, be sure to scale it up.

All you have to do is right-click > copy image, open MSPaint, and Ctrl+V, and enlarge to taste.  You don't even need to save the image.
