Why would you even want an Aquifer!

Besides, they are too easy to find anyway.

Yanlin: The problem is that he doesn't want one but still gets it.

I think the problem with this is that at least part of the map doesn't have the aquifer.

Ah... I read it completely wrong.

I prefer searching myself. Site finder is unreliable.

rivers and aquifers run hand in-hand
(check how "much" aquifer there is using f1,f2,f3 to reveal the biomes and flooded layers)

QFT
Aquifers are "water table underground," rivers and lakes are "water table above ground."

Site finder with Aquifer:No searches for a site, where at least one tile contains Aquifer. It's just that.

You wouldn't expect it to give you nine magma pipes, when set to Magma Pipe:Yes? Same with every other setting: at least one tile have to correspond.

Setting the site finder to NOT find something should have it so that none of the tiles in your area have it. Thats how it works on everything else.

It makes no sense otherwise, I mean honestly: Say I want a 5x5 map with NO river and NO magma but with a chasm. If it gives me a 5x5 area with 2 magma vents and a river that goes across the whole thing: What the hell did that accomplish? Just because "at least one tile doesn't have it" doesn't mean it's anything close to what you're searching for. Thats like saying if I want a site with no features at all, giving me a 5x5 site with every single feature is plastered on 24 out of 25 tiles with one empty tile is a perfect match. Currently all this works, though - it won't give you a magma vent if you set it to no.

So don't say the location finder not obeying the rules for aquifers isn't a bug, or isn't important. If something doesn't work, it's a bug just as much as if my dwarves were to spontaneously combust every day, and it's important to people who use the site finder.

I guess that in addition to our current choice of 3 variants in site finder features (Yes, No, N/A) 2 more would be good to have in some cases. The final five would look as:

N/A - Do not pay attention to this feature entirely.
Yes, One - At least one tile must have this feature.
No, One - At least one tile must NOT have this feature.
Yes, All - All tiles MUST have this feature.
No, All - All tiles MUST NOT have this feature.

For most of the features "Yes, All" or "No, All" or "No, One" are meaningless but for aquifers all 5 are needed.

"No, all" is EVERY feature.  If I select no for magma vents I expect to NOT have one in EVERY tile.

If I select no for magma vents I expect to NOT have one in EVERY tile.

I interpret "no" to mean "do not search for a site that contains X."  I agree that there should be an option that says "search for a site that does not contain X," but it should be called something else.  "N/A" instead of "No" plus a "None" option sounds good.

Uh, have you even used the site finder? N/A is the default setting for all the options, and it means that it doesn't even include that feature in the checks - whether or not the site has it makes no difference.

Yes means it must have at least one, and No means it must not have any.

I haven't yet had it find aquifers when I selected no, though. I guess it could crop up on occasion, but even when repeatedly searching with aquifers set to no and adjusting other features trying to get a partial aquifer it always works right and gives me 0 aquifer tiles in my embark area.

The closest I got was an area right beside an aquifer but not actually containing any aquifer tiles in the area. However, embarking right beside the aquifer probably makes the aquifer layers bleed into it a bit on the edges - the same way stone types do if you embark on an area with a border between stone types. Could that be what was happening to the OP?

It's not complaining, it's bug reporting
