So I got a new pet...
« on: August 18, 2008, 07:32:30 am »

Any ideas what to do with it? What can I do with it? I was thinking about chaining him to my entrance for protection, but I'm afraid he might burn down all the buildings along with the goblins.

(yes, that is a cat tallow soap bridge across the lava moat in the throne room)

That's what I did with my tame dragon, Renus Sensewaddle the Silvery Fires. Well, only in spring and summer. In Autumn and winter he's a zoo exhibit. :)

Using it for defense is iffy because you'll have to chain it to get it to stay put. Not only that but if some gobbo gets a lucky shot and kills it it's going to be very difficult to replace.

chain it up behind a floodgate, and when goblins come past WHAM. open the gate and let burning commence.

The problem is, I haven't got that much material that's safe from dragonfire, so unless I waste steel on it, the floodgate will probably burn with the goblins. The little cutie burned two bridges on his way to my fort..

But anyway, the death arena will probably happen. Or maybe I'll just stack up a shitload of bones and gold coins and let him sit on it.

Isn't all rock dragonfire-safe? Were your bridges made of wood?

Two felsite bridges built over a magma pit just outside my entrance (a little surprise for visiting goblins). They disappeared anyway, but the dragon didn't, so I'm guessing it was the fire that burnt it away.

Don't think anyone's ever confirmed it, but general consensus is that it's probably NOT possible...mind you, getting 2 dragons on a map, let alone two that were of opposite sexes (so they could have a chance of breeding), is rather difficult and relies on really good fortune with the RNG so anyone even willing to test it could be in for a long wait.

1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

I suspect all you'd have to do is edit the raws (dragons are found in creature_standard) so that dragons had child age and childname tags. Not sure what you'd get, but that might be more dragons than is wise...

So: Not possible in vanilla DF, but one line of text would make it that way.

Feed goblins to him until he's ultra mighty, then abandon the fortress and let him loose on the world.

The poor unsuspecting world.

Better yet, breed a whole bunch of his kind and then do that.  An Age of Draconic Terror would be a glory worthy of Armok.  And it would be a fun time for adventure mode.
