I like the idea of building a large structures out of smoothed blocks instead of rough stone; makes me think of it as more solid.

Anyways, story time!

The following is an account of events as they occurred on the 11th of Hematite, early summer of the year 377.

Mistem looked up from the felsite block she was in the middle of carving, a ‘ahem’ bringing her attention away from her work. “Nitho, so you’re back eh?” She was referring to the rather impatient looking human standing outside of the masons shop, clutching a satchel of papers.

“Yes, we’re back, and we have a timetable to keep.”

Nitho was the Merchants Guild representative attached to the trade caravan that had arrived at The Hill just a day ago, here on its yearly trading circuit. After a bit of a rocky start the year previous due to a misunderstanding of sorts, the local Merchants Guild agreed to include The Hill on their schedule.

“A timetable? Yes, I can respect that. In fact I have a schedule of my own.” Mistem replied, striking her hammer against the chisel pressed to the rough felsite block one last time before setting her tools down. “You may have noticed a lot of us are busy with these blocks. We have a lot of work that needs to be done and little time to do it.”

Nitho quickly surveyed the room, noticing that were was indeed a rather large pile of smoothed stone blocks stacked against each other to one end, and a number of workshops abuzz with activity. “Constructing a proper fortification are you? I noticed that tower on top of the hill. It looks a bit cramped for my tastes but it emulates our own designs quite well.” Nitho smirked, trying to get the Dwarf off her guard. “It isn’t like you Dwarves to build –“

“Look out!” A shout interrupted the human, “It’s loose!”

Mistem spun to face the direction of the commotion, and saw the goblin thief that had been captured in one of The Hill’s traps free of its cage, snarling and furiously waving a dagger, trying to maim what ever poor Dwarf was within striking distance. Dwarves were running in every direction to get away from the enraged goblin, abandoning their work.

A howl rang out from the goblin; a bolt had been firmly lodged in its right upper arm. It dropped its blade and clutched the wound when a second bolt pierced its leathery hide, this one finding its mark in its lower body. Vucar, a seasoned hunter, had just happened to be coming down the main stairwell when the goblin broke free, and had his copper crossbow in hand. The dwarf released a third bolt, this one spelling the end of the escaped goblin.

“You can come out now, Nitho.” Mistem smirked, “The goblin’s been taken care of.”

Nitho stood up from behind the felsite block Mistem had been carving, dusting off his finely embroidered orange jacket, “Well, I do hope so. I would hate for anything to happen to me.” Nitho cleared his throat, standing idling for a moment before adding, “And our trade agreement, of course.”

“Of course.”

Heh... Why was the goblin out of it's cage, anyhow?

Haven scribbles down a note...

The Human's diplomat, by the name of Nitho, come by while the blockmaking was in progress today. Started haranguing Mistem, but his little bout of pomp and circumstance was interrupted by our captive goblin getting loose. Luckily (as Nitho wasn't all that close to it) Vucar took care of it in short order. I wonder how it got loose... Maybe someone around here had taken to bothering it, or perhaps it just used that knife it has to cut it's way free... We really should have checked it over for weapons before we let it be...

On other notes, looking through some of the texts I scrounged for our trip has proven quite educational. I may need to take a more active role in following Zon. After all, if this fortress is to truely prosper, it could certainly do worse than having a deity of fortresses watching over it. And what with all those possessions going on, along with this first goblin getting loose... I think I could do worse than saying this Hill we've taken for our own could be a dangerous place, beyond the challenges that could be met with stone walls and bolts.

I was trying to bring it to the trade depot to get the humans to buy it. Apparently any civilized (and I use the term loosely) creature gets released from its cage if you try to take them to the trade depot to sell. Oh well; makes for interesting story.

NOOOOO!  We shall not let this die!  We have worked too hard on our grand fortress to just let it die like this!

You still alive over there, Dogman?  Or are you just busy with real life stuff like I was?

Yes, still alive. Just taking an impromptu hiatus from DF for a few days. My gaming habits are very whimsical. Within the next few days I should get back into it.

Sure, what do you want his nickname to be?

From the Journal of Mistem Athellal:
18th of Hematite, 377

After the typical introduction between the merchants and I, I set about getting a good deal for us. The humans have brought with them a rather large supply of logs. I’m not faulting them for bringing so many, as we had requested a shipment, but surely they went a little overboard? We’ll have enough logs for half a year of full scale production.

21st of Hematite, 377

As usual, with the caravan come the thieves. The human guards have driven off a few Kobolds, but I haven’t seen them since they ran off after another Kobold yesterday. Until they return I’m having Cepheid guard the caravan.

The merchants seemed very impressed with Udil’s crafts, especially his mugs. After some figuring we came to the agreement that the total selection of crafts and mugs he’s made over the past few months has a value of at least 14,000 bronze coins. I’ve purchased their entire stock of logs along with a good amount of human alcohol, a variety of meats, and an additional anvil with just a fraction of the goods Udil has made. I’ll have Domas mine out some larger quarters for him to show my appreciation for his efforts.

2nd of Malachite, 377

A pack of wild Rhesus Macaque’s tried to raid the trade caravan today. I was quite surprised to hear this; I’ve never seem them in the area before. If this is true We’ll have to make sure all of our valuables are secured and the depot kept free of clutter.

Still, they were no match for Cepheid’s axe. The butchers and tanners will be quite busy the next few days.

When I went to investigate the aftermath I couldn’t find any sign of the human guards. Worryingly, I asked the traders; they said they hadn’t seem them since they ran after that kobold thief last week. I’ll send out Vucar and his apprentice hunter to search for them. Surely a single Kobold couldn’t have killed 4 heavily armoured guards…

7th of Malachite, 377

The noise of the workshops I’ve gotten used to; the wails, howls, and cries of that damn macaque caged in the animal stockpile, however, is a new annoyance. I was forced out of bed much earlier than I would have liked due to all the ruckus it was causing. I’ll have to get one of the animal trainers to tame it soon. Either that or let the butchers at it.

Nitho and I finally managed to complete our meeting today, after so many delays. He agreed to import a large selection of their finest brews, an assortment of meat, and as a special order, a number of picks. In return Nitho asked for mostly footwear, windows, and shields. Interestingly enough he also asked for a shipment of green glass musical instruments.

Hunting is a dangerous profession. At least he didn't have any kids  :(

From the Journal of Mistem Athellal:
9th of Malachite

That monkey finally shut up. The animal trainers did a good job on it, but I’m a bit wary of letting it out of its cage. If we get any more animals I might have to make a special zoo for us to spend our breaks in.

12th of Malachite

Nitho and his caravan finally departed today, without their guards. Vucar couldn’t find any sight of them during his search. No corpses, no broken bolts, arms, or armour. It’s as if they simply disappeared. This worries me greatly, though I realize they could have just as well abandoned the caravan for their own reasons. Indeed, I do hope that is simply the truth behind the matter, and not anything far more sinister.

Given the recent news, it lifts my spirits to learn from Haven that the first level of the curtain wall and the entirety of the northern siege tower are complete. If worse comes to worse, we now have a safe place to hunker down in.

20th of Malachite

I am furious. Some idiot deconstructed the stairs to the second level of the western siege tower whilst I was inspecting the first level! I was stranded down there for a week before I managed to smash a hole through the wall large enough for me to slip through. Who ever the genius was that did it is going to get a few choice words from me, and a few scowls from the masons that will have to patch up that hole.

23rd of Malachite

I was organizing some of my lists today when I came across the trade agreement from Nitho. Normally his merchants are happy enough with the masterfully crafted stone trinkets Udil makes, but I think next season we’ll give them something they actually asked for: green glass instruments and windows.

Making my rounds around the halls I’ve noticed Tekkid, the creator of the perfect smoky quartz Thanreg, looking rather humdrum. Until now I’ve had her fishing as we haven’t had any need or ability to produce glass items. This will all change as of today. I’m appointing her to be the lead glassmaker, and have ordered both a wood and glass furnace to be built to facilitate her needs. When Nitho comes back next summer, he’ll have enough windows to build a thousand temples and glass instruments to herald the coming of kings.

The following is an account of events as they occurred on the 10th of Galena, late summer of the year 377

There wasn’t much cover this far south where the rolling foothills joined with the steeper, barren low mountains. Still that did not impede Zasit’s hunt. He had been tracking a lone hoary marmot for the better part of a day now. The skilled hunter walked carefully through the dried grass, his soft steps barely making a noise as he stalked his prey. The rodent had wandered to the top of a small peak, high enough to survey the entire length of the river valley below.

Zasit carefully observed a small feather he held between his thumb and finger, taking note of the direction of the wind; it was blowing from the southeast. Perfect: he was downwind from his prey. The dwarf carefully approached the steep slope, silently hoisting himself up to peak over the edge of a rocky outcropping. His eyes caught the small creature scampering down the opposite edge of the slope, stopping every few feet to scratch amongst the boulders. This behavior told Zasit he had not been detected yet.

The hunter climbed the slope after his prey as it made its way down the opposite slope. Zasit took up a spot behind a large boulder to prepare his crossbow, drawing the string back and placing a bolt in the catch. The hunter rose to his feet and took aim at the Marmot. He had a perfect shot.

Just as he was ready to pull the trigger, a low growl caught Zasits attention. His eyes shot open with the sudden realization that he himself was being hunted. The Dwarf spun around as quickly as his legs would allow him. The only thing that separated him from a cougar ready to pounce was a few feet of open ground; ground that could be covered very quickly by the large predatory cat. Zasit took quick aim at the cougar, his heart pounding from the sudden rush of adrenaline, and loosed his bolt.

The bone tipped bolt shot through the air towards the cougar, its course set for the cats left shoulder. In a cruel twist of fate an unusually strong gust of wind swelled up from the slope of the hill, pushing the bolt ever so slightly off its flight path. The cougar yowled in pain as the bolt grazed its left shoulder. Zasit cursed under his breath and hurriedly attempted to ready another bolt.

The cougar had recovered from the shock of the wound and pounced at the hunter. Zasit raised his right arm just in time to block the slathering maw of the cougar from sinking its teeth into his head. However, experiencing that particular sensation on his arm was no great alternative either. Zasit screwed his eyes shut and let out a pained yell as the cougar closed its jaw around his forearm, a sickening crunch and snap resounding from the interior of his limb as bones broke under the punishing force of the large cats bite.

The hunter’s free hand clutched his crossbow and bashed it against the cougar’s left rear leg in vain. Zasit’s head began to swim in a foggy mist of pain as the cougar slashed at his chest with a clawed paw, cutting deep into it. Another feeble whack at the cougar with his ineffectual, impromptu crossbow-club did nothing to dislodge the predator, instead only serving to enrage the beast even further. The cougar tore a large chunk of flesh from Zasit’s arm and renewed its attacks on the Dwarf, biting and clawing the once able hunter. The pain and blood loss was too much for Zasit’s mind and body; the Dwarf succumbed to his wounds and fell into unconsciousness, and shortly afterwards, the welcome embrace of death.

From the Journal of Mistem Athellal:
11th of Galena, 377

There are a number of hesitant pen strokes and ink blots here, indicated some resistant or half-thought words were attempted to be written. Perhaps I should take a break from my work and socialize with my fellow Dwarves more. The Dwarf I’ve known for almost three years now, Domas, isn’t actually Domas. He finally got fed up with me calling him by the wrong name and quite blatantly said his name was in fact Marigi Jones… I don’t know how I could make such a mistake. I’ll have to change his entry in all of my lists and work schedules. I’m so embarrassed; I don’t think my face will ever go back from being red.

14th of Galena, 377

Vucar needed to speak to me today. He expressed some concern over his fellow hunter, Zasit. He hasn’t been seen in the halls for a few days now. Usually that would be normal given Zasit’s profession; Vucar himself is often away from The Hill for a week or two at a time. Still, Vucar worries something may have befallen his comrade. I’ll give Zasit another week to report back. If he doesn’t, I’ll issue a search team.

20th of Galena, 377

Still no sign of Zasit. Given what happened to the guards of the human caravan, I can’t help but fear the worse. I’ve ordered Cepheid and Vucar to search the wilderness for him. I pray to Lilar Zasit returns safe.

25th of Galena, 377

The Hill is in mourning today. The body of Zasit Cogad was discovered by Cepheid on the summit of the peak to the south of The Hill. The wounds indicate he was attacked by a large predator, possibly a cougar as that’s all we’ve seen around here that can do that sort of damage. Cepheid says it was a foul sight; poor Zasit was ripped to shreds.

I’ve ordered the construction of a proper grave and memorial to have the highest priority. We’ll lay Zasit to rest once his body is recovered and all funeral rites have been completed. I think I’ll also have Haven build a statue in Zasit’s honour and have it erected on the site of his death.

27th of Galena, 377

To act as a balance to the bad news of Zasit’s death, Haven reports that the last blocks of the western siege tower have been laid. The Keep and all of its fortifications are complete. All that’s left to do is stock it, and train a militia to man it. It took nearly a year to build, but solid fortifications are worth the wait.

What’s more, Domas Marigi says he mined through a large patch of Magnetite ore while digging a shaft to Zasit’s eventual resting place. An entire cluster of valuable ore right under our feet this whole time! The metalsmiths will be very pleased to finally be able to apply their trade.

Dogman cancels update: interrupted by family obligations x47

The long week of having my much, much younger cousin stay over and having to constantly entertain him is over, and now I can finally get back to updating. I know I said I have a couple of special things planned, but one of them didn't work out too well, but I hope you enjoy the story nonetheless.
___________

From the Journal of Mistem Athellal:
11th of Limestone, 377

I was dining in our rather fine dining room (I’ll have to thank Haven for making all those exquisite chairs and tables) when suddenly one of my fellow Dwarves, Edem Koganzenon, threw up his bowl of wild strawberries and ran out of the dining room. Naturally this caught my interest; he was babbling like a Dwarf possessed. He claimed Udil’s craftshop and started collecting all manners of materials. I counted three felsite boulders, a rough green Zircon, 2 turtle shells, and 2 panels of Hoary Marmot leather. Then I went back on my break. It isn’t often I get to sit and relax with the other Dwarves. These things sort themselves out, and since it seems Edem’s gotten everything he needs, there won’t be any trouble from him.

Perhaps I was too hasty about my break. The yearly Dwarven caravan arrived just as Edem’s possession took hold. Back to work, I guess.

12th of Limestone, 377

Once again I must thank Udil for his wonderful crafts. It took some haggling, offerings, and counter-offerings, but I managed to buy the caravans entire supply of wood, alcohol, and various foodstuffs. I should mention that I decided to splurge a little and buy a bundle of giant cave spider meat. I’ve never had such a delicacy before, and it will be interesting to see how it tastes; the nobles back home were always going on about it.

17th of Limestone, 377

Edem finally came out of his shop today. He carried with him the object of his possession: a felsite mug entitled Idlelshislug Ashzos Fazis, or “Bustmuddled the Distraction of Celebrations”. A little longwinded, I think. Still, it is a very valuable looking mug, with a masterfully carved image of a Dwarf and a group of Dwarves standing before a series of tall crosses opposite the handle, which menaces with spikes of turtle shell and hoary marmot leather on the top and underside. A very fine mug, that is.

I think his possession has left him a little shaken; he hasn’t been nearly as celebratory over the artifact as a Dwarf should. Perhaps it was just the shock of it…

The events as they occoured on the night of the 18th of Limestone, early autumn of the year 377

Edem had been milling over the recent events in his head as he sat at one of Haven’s fine tables in the dining room, sipping a pint of Dwarven ale from the very mug he had found in his hands the day before. The image carves so delicately into the face of the mug captivated his interest. The Dwarf stared at it, tracing the lines of the various figures with his eyes, contemplating their meaning.

Deduk Inodsakrith, an animal trainer, took the chair beside Edem’s, and greeted the brooding Dwarf. “Hello there, Edem. I couldn’t help but notice that wonderfully crafted mug you’ve got there. Beautiful imagery on it; what’s it about?”
Edem simply stared at the image of Dwarves and crosses; something about it was very unsettling to him.

“Edem, are you listening? Hello?” Deduk shook Edem by the shoulder, getting his attention.

“What? Oh, uh... Deduk is it?” He was a little startled, his memory leaving him for a moment.

“Yes. I was asking about that picture there. Do you know what it’s about?”

“I haven’t a clue. I’ve been wondering about it myself.” replied Edem flatly. Honestly he felt cheated, slighted by fate. Here he had made this masterpiece, the latest item of praise from The Hill, yet he could not remember a thing about it, how it came to be, or even how it was his hands that worked the leather and shells into place. The Dwarf was no better at stonecrafting than he was before; that spirit that had possessed him took all knowledge and memory with it when it left his body.

And yet still, there was something off about that engraving. The other Dwarves all praised its beautiful imagery, saying it was worthy of the finest artists in the Mountianhomes. Only Edem seemed to notice something not quite right about it.

Edem forced it out of his mind, turning to speak to Deduk, “Well, friend, I think I’ll sleep now. I am quite tired. I’m sure you understand.”

“Of course, Edem. Completely understandable,” came the reply, “Have a pleasant sleep, and make sure you keep that mug safe.”

With that, the stonecrafter took to his feet and shumbled out of the dining hall, making his way towards the living quarters, “Thank you, and I will.”

***

It was an uneasy sleep; strange visions clouded Edem’s mind as he tossed uneasily. The half-dream-like state fell before a more solid image. Edem walked amongst a crowd of Dwarves, each one with a blackened veil studded with black onyx gems covering their faces. He could barely make out their various features; through their shrouds the other Dwarves appeared as if they were shadows.

He was carried along by the current of Dwarves, ushered into a large hall; a hall in which massive stone pillars, each one menacing with gargoyles perched upon crevices seemingly eroded into the sides, interrupted the flow of the smoothed, swirling floor pattern. A light fog permeated the air, swirling and roping around Edem as he walked through the hall.

At the end of the hall, before two tall crosses emerging from the floor, stood a lone Dwarf clad in the most elegant of robes, every edge and corner embroidered with a brilliant aqua thread that could only be the famed adamantine. The threads glinted in the light pouring in from a shaft cut into the roof above the Dwarf. Openly drooping sleeves gave way to a tighter wrap of fine giant cave spider silk dyed in a deep violet. The wrap continued from the Dwarves forearms to his palms, even going so far as to tightly bind every individual finger in thin strips of silk. The royally dressed Dwarf’s face was hidden in shadows by a heavy hood; Edem wasn’t quite sure, but he could almost make out an unearthly glint in the Dwarf’s eyes.

It became clearer as Edem was pushed closer by the crowd at his back. The dwarf pulled back his cloak from his head, and raised his arms outwards, as if to beckon the crowd. Edem simply stared, mouth agape; that glint was not from the Dwarf’s eyes, but from the two identically perfect Smoky Quartz crystals that had been inserted into the empty sockets. Moreover, his skin had the appearance of worked leather, his cheeks were sunken in, and for all the world the Dwarf looked as if to be half-dead.

The crowd of Dwarves took their places to form a semi-circle around the central figure, a low chant rising from their throats. Edem looked about the room frantically, his mind becoming wracked with revulsion as the details on each veiled Dwarf’s face were revealed to him. They were the same as the central figure: leathery, dried skin, sickly, starving features, and a half-dead appearance in their eyes.

Edem found himself forced to his knees by two veiled figures that had silently positioned themselves behind him as the chanting reached its fevered height. The Dwarf tried to resist, take to his feet and run, but it felt as if some unnatural force was holding him to the floor, paralyzing his limbs. Edem cried out in agony as a blade effortlessly cut into his back, swift and concise strokes leaving a pair of tall crosses; bloodied mirror images of the stone carvings in the hall.

The sound of stone grinding upon stone began to emanate from the floor tile in front of Edem, and soon a large, dark pit opened before the marked Dwarf. The dark figures behind Edem locked their arms around his and dragged him to the pit, chanting a different tune than the others. Edem was violently shoved into the black abyss of the pit; for the mere second he had to gather his senses from the shock of the flurry of events it looked as if it was an endless chasm.

Fortunately, or perhaps not, the drop was no more than 7 feet. Edem landed on his back with a heavy thud and stinging pain from the earlier cuts. He was stunned and breathless, and his senses were none too quick to return. The Dwarf gained the strength to stand again and raze his gaze to the single opening. The light pouring in was almost blinding compared to the darkness around him; Edem shielded his eyes with a hand and called out desperately, but there was no answer from the Dwarves above.
A puff of dust falling from the ceiling above forced Edem to lower his gaze; the pit had begun to be sealed off. More frantic pleads came from the Dwarf trapped below as the light was slowly cut off. A shadow from the corner of his eye caught Edem’s attention, and he spun to look upon it directly. With a startle Edem realized what had caused that shadow: in the fading light he could see the bloody history of the pit. Nearly every surface of the wall was scratched and carved with what could only be the desperation of the previous victims. Ageless skeletons and dried leathery husks surrounded him; some broken, some with half of their fingers missing, and most contorted and curled into feeble, pathetic poses. The clunk of stone against stone as the pit was completely sealed off signed Edems fate.

From the Journal of Mistem Athellal:
18th of Limestone, 377

Joy of joys! Magma! Marigi dug into a pool of magma while mining out the preliminary tunnel to a new tomb complex I’ve decided to construct. This is a wonderful cause of celebration! We have a source of Magma to power our metal and glassworks, among other things.

The creatures living in the pool will have to be dealt with, though, before we can make use of it, though. That will be the soon-to-be-established Militias first duty, after some training with crossbows. The future of The Hill is looking up, I think.

As for other happenings, another pair of kobolds tried to rob the caravan still at the trade depot. I’m told one was shot through with a single bolt the moment it was discovered, and the other was shot and killed as it tried to run away after witnessing its partners death.

24th of Limestone, 377

Today marks the day that The Hill commissions a proper militia force. The peasants that arrived with the last group of migrants, the same that helped construct The Keep, will now help defend it. To prepare them for the fight against the magma creatures inhabiting the newly discovered pool, I’ve ordered the construction of an archery range within the curtain walls of The Keep.

It also occurred to me, while inspecting the courtyard, that in the event of a siege we would not have access to fresh water if the palisade wall is breached. Our only well is located next to the brook, outside of the curtain walls. This, I think, is a critical flaw in our Keep that will be corrected with the utmost priority.

Additionaly, I noticed the food stores completely overflowing again. Even with the new stockpile next to the dining room we’re quickly running out of room. We have plenty of wood to make barrels, but not enough carpenters to keep up with the demand, as Fath is busy making beds for the new housing complex.

26th of Limestone, 377

The month of Limestone continues to be a prosperous one for The Hill. Marigi informs me that, in addition to a cluster of green zircon, he struck a vein of gold. My meetings with the Mountainhomes liaison also proved fruitful. He expressed a rather keen interest in procuring more of Udil’s wonderful rock crafts and trinkets of all types. In return I specifically asked for a shipment of pearlash; green glass is pretty and all, but clear glass is truly a sight to behold.

Another eventful day of mining; Marigi discovered a second gold vein, a vein of Garnierite, and a vein of hematite. I’m told Garnierite yields nickel when smelted. Once we get the magma pool cleared out and set up a proper metalsmithing industry we’ll be swimming in fine metals. And I sincerely mean that in the figurative sense.

Vucar had a run in with a Kobold thief in view of the trade depot as well. From what the guards tell me, Vucar head-butted the scum the moment it sprang out of hiding. When I took a look at the body the Kobold’s entire forehead was a broken, bloodied mess. Vucar seems fine now, if only a little stunned still.

Something has to be done about the food stockpiles. It’s such a mess I couldn’t have been expected to know we were down to only 3 barrels of precious alcohol!

The following was written later in the day

It seems we had nearly a dozen barrels, but most were lost among the great mess of barrels and fish roasts haphazardly stacked upon on another. I’ve been attempting to issue a reorganization of the food stockpiles but it was been slowly going. There is a distinct lack of free Dwarves for hauling duty.

Today marks 2 full years since we settled here at The Hill. It’s been a very busy two years and there’s still much work to be done. Just off the top of my head we have to:

1)   Train a proper militia force
2)   Clear the magma pool of any fiery creatures
3)   Construct a proper forgeworks and establish a metal/glass industry
4)   Finish furnishing the living quarters
5)   Reinforce the palisade wall
6)   Construct a tomb-complex.
7)   Conduct interviews with the new migrants and get them situated.

Yes, a new batch of migrants arrived today as well. Their interviews will have to wait until the morning.

2nd of Timber, 377

A full day of interviews is finally complete, not that there were many new arrivals to go through. The new migrants are as follows:

Lolar Avalkobuk – Siege Engineer
Datan Fikodtathur (f) – Carpenter
Amost Kosotheshshak (f) – Mechanic
Melbil Likotzon – Herbalist
Tosid Tithlethzuntir – Woodcutter
Ducim Kirthikut – Gem Setter
Vabak Bardumlogem (f) – Child, daughter of the above

A few useful workers amongst them; Datan Fikodtathur, a carpenter, will help immensely with the bed and barrel shortages, Ducim Kirthikut will be made Tekkud’s apprentice in the glassworks, and Lolar Avalkobuk will help oversee the construction of the catapults in the siege towers. Melbil Kosotheshshak and Tosid Tithlethzentir might become problem-Dwarves. Speaking with Melbil was like trying to get blood from stone, and Tosid could barely keep himself together long enough to answer my simple questions. I might just give Melbil a pick and have him mine out the furthest tunnels; I don’t think he’ll mind working alone for so long.

The Hill now has over 50 residents; 53 to be exact.
