That's not as bad as going into a tunnel and walking around for an hour in real time trying to get to the other end only to jump into a chasm because there is no end in site.

Look at the elevation window in the upper right corner.  You will see that the ramp leads straight into solid rock.  The platform is one tile away, but people can't jump yet so he's buggered.

Something needs to be done about tunnels. Seriously, trying to go through one will have you most likely die due to starvation or dehydration.

Well food doesn't rot as fast now so it's possible to stock up on food and drink to attempt the trek. You can probably just squeak by with what you get at start up if you start in a mountain hall or dark fortress with a tunnel.
