Run out of water to drink?
« on: June 23, 2008, 06:57:11 pm »

I think i just found the ultimate solution to running out of water on a trek. Fill your backpack. I just found out that your backpack can carry 80 units of water, along with everything else.

Weight? What weight?  ;) I didn't notice any speed difference.

Lol, right now it's all frozen so i'm basically lugging around a huge block of ice.

How exactly do you get water into any of your containers?

Stand next to water (check that it's fresh first) press shift+i (i.e. I). Then choose the container from the list. Then choose where you want to fill it from.

Testing shows that the amount of water stored is based on how many items are in the backpack, empty the backpack for the best effect. Also, removing water from your backpack (by dropping, not throwing) causes you to dump everything in the backpack onto the ground, same for vomit.

Also, if you run out of water and get thirsty for whatever reason in a place with only salty or brackish water (you usually can never drink it), go into a pool, then drink the 'water covering' you instead. Apparently human/dwarf/elf bodies act like mobile desalination plants.  ;)

Edit: Oh yeah, rain will give you 'water covering' too.

Edit2: More testing shows that quivers can hold water too (take out the arrows/bolts first). I guess any container will do. Holds 20 units of water, backpack can actually hold 100 units of water, when completely empty to start with. After you put in the water, you can put your stuff back.

Yeah, figuring that out makes ocean travelling actually possible.

I'm well aware of the 'water covering' part, kept slurping it off my adventurer's tusks while I swam the Bitter Gulf, notorious for its raging puffin swarms.

Thanks for pointing out how to get my water skin filled up, now I can finally storm the dark fortresses without having to break off to get a drink somewhere!

On the backpack-carrying-water front, it weighs quite a bit. Dropped from 1098 speed to 700 odd. Admittedly with a lot of other stuff. I decided to look at the weight, 920 Units for a stack of 100. So... quite a bit.

Is there any way to thaw your water that's frozen in your waterskin/backpack/quiver/Kobold skull goblet short of leaving the area or swimming in magma?

Set fire to some vegetation and hang around it for a while, then hope you don't catch fire yourself.
