A thing with goblins seeking parley
« on: September 15, 2023, 09:18:21 am »

When they're standing there all peacefull BEFORE you clicked deny or accept their petition, the dwarves seem to regard them as entirely harmless and will happily go into the middle of the goblin army and pick up socks to store in bins.

I feel like the sight of a goblin army waiting for a parley should make the dwarves think the water buffalo feces are about to hit the blades of the windmill and scare them so they run away.

I mean, you could just attack the parley'ing goblin outright. There's nothing stopping you attacking first.

Nothing scares a proper dwarf when socks come into question.

Yeah I do. But sometimes dwarves go to pick up socks in the middle of the goblin army while the military is running up the stairs to attack. :)

Usually I hold off the military to give the sock guy time to get out, because if he's in the middle when the fighting starts the goblins will attack him.

Download DF hack (free on steam) and use the civilian alert burrow function to get your dwarves to safety

If you're so sure that you're gonna end up killing all of dwarven civilization, why not make a statue depicting 2147483647 dead dwarves, all of which are burning? Name it something good, like Deaddead the Dead Dead Dead-Dead of Dying. Just put it in the main hall or something, as a grim reminder that they're all gonna die.

That is a thing that can be done, yes, but it's not what Orange is asking for. He's not asking "How can I keep my civilian dwarves away from armed goblin invaders that are not currently attacking?" he's saying that "Civilian dwarves should be smart enough to know to stay the hell away from armed goblin invaders, regardless of their hostility status at the moment".

Dwarf Fortress -- kind of like Minecraft, but for people who hate themselves.

I know, I just wanted to let him know as a temporary solution to his problem. Note that the civilian that goes out to meet them to fulfil their demands would need to be taken into consideration

Goblins often ask me for a parlay, but they always end up attacking me after I’ve agreed to one.
