I have book cases, tables, chairs, and chests with quires inside.
I have made 3 scholars and a scribe.

None of them are doing much of anything.

I have the stuff to bind books, but waiting for someone to write something.

Any suggestions?

Your scribe can take years to get on with it. He needs plenty of time to think, pray, sleep, eat, socialise, think some more....

I have never successfully had a dwarf write on a quire, but have had plenty of success with the type of book called a scroll, which is simply a sheet and a scroll roller. Perhaps you should make sure unquired sheets are also available, just in case.

Ok, Interesting. I did this once before (ages ago on the non-steam version - probably >a year ago now I think about it) and it happened right away. I guess experiences may vary on this one

 My understanding is that scribes just copy preexisting texts (providing these exist).  Scholars are the ones who create entirely new books.

In any case, for the scribes, the OP needs to make sure that they have something to copy.  For the scholars, they just need to be patient…

1. Upload and open the image in imgur.
2. Right click (mobile users will have to hold the image, and it should become a right click) and select "Open in new Tab"
3. The image should open in a new tab. Look for the address bar.
4. Copy the URL in the address bar, and add the picture extension. Probably your extension is .png, check by putting the pic on your desktop if you're not sure.
5. Use the code

Yeah the explanation isn't written anywhere obvious, I had to have it all explained to me over a decade ago, and since then I've tried to pay forward where I can. It's not necessarily immediately obvious as to how to post your images, but the results can be very satisfying.

I think there is a bug affecting scribes. I've only ever seen them copy a book once or twice despite having huge numbers of uncopied books and blank scrolls/quires available. I've never had a problem with scholars not writing on quires, but I stick to scrolls because of another bug which causes all but the first page of a quire to get lost when it is bound into a book.
