Steam Edition Item Values
« on: December 13, 2022, 06:27:13 pm »

Hi,

I noticed that everything my dwarf create the item value seems to cap at value of 2000. I remember I used to make items that were worth much more than that. Is there a item trade value cap now, is there a way to remove this cap?

Thank you!

Some items were nerfed in value (e.g., glass serrated disks.) Broker appraisal skill also determines the accuracy of shown values.

Some people are reporting that no matter how much cool stuff they put in a room, the room value caps at 2300, so something weird and buggy might be going on

Yes this is exactly what is happening and all the items are capped at that same value.

What about wooden spiked balls?

This could just be a display bug. You can check the grading of the rooms in the owner's rooms tab, so you should be able to see if the rooms are actually exceeding the 2300 limit you're reporting. Assuming the values are still the same, Grand and Royal are all past 2300, so if any dwarf has a Royal Bedroom, you're still fine, though the graphical issue might be annoying.

Presumably. Also probably prepared meals, though I haven't gotten around to making quarry bush roasts.

I'm still selling barrels of food for 3000+ the first autumn.

I definitely have items worth more than 2K. Although I'll have to check, just containers and artifacts iirc, but I haven't splurged on anything but steel armor yet.

I definitely have some *quarry bush leaf roast [30]* worth over 3000, and a porcelain statue with a dozenish cheap gems set in it worth 2307, and artifacts worth up to ~20,000 so far. (At least those values show up when I look at it in the fortress, not sure what they would show in the trade screen)
But also getting room values higher than 10,000 so far (at least according to the guild info screen).

Some people are reporting that no matter how much cool stuff they put in a room, the room value caps at 2300, so something weird and buggy might be going on

Incidentally, how are people checking room value in the Steam version? By setting the room as a guild/temple temporarily? That's the only way I've found so far to directly view the numerical value of a room.

Is that nerfed from where it was? IIRC, we used to have stacks worth tens of thousands, though stack size might have played a role in that.

That's a superior roast, not even exceptional or masterful.

I think it's less that the items themselves are capped than that the broker/appraisal system seems to impose a cap on how much value can be evaluated.

I've had several religions demand temple complexes (value: "10,000?") and I've fulfilled that, usually by tossing an artifact onto a pedestal. So clearly the value is there, it's just not being read correctly.

Just updating that on the Kitfox discord's bug tracker there's an entry about items / room values being capped at 2300, and by the sound of it it may be a bug that is affecting some save files and not others.
