I think I am most impressed by how desolate and similar looking all corners of this land are. It is rare to see anything other than wasteland and a thin stream supporting the barest of existences. The few forests I have discovered in my own explorations are thinly stretched and far from civilized lands.
Quite desolate indeed. Makes survival more of a challenge. Especially when most forms of immortality are non-existant.

Given what we've seen of this world why would anyone want to be immortal in this world?

The World Of Bones - Succession World - A Heathy Hamlet?

Holmes pondered if flipping a dog would work.  He was under a spell of bad luck.  Would that make the dog flipping lie to him?  Send him in the wrong direction?

Maybe just following the nearest river north and continue to look for the place called Mopfocuses?

As he headed north, out of the settlement, he noticed buildings ahead of him.  Maybe somebody there could answer his questions?

One of the structures was a empty dining area.  Or meeting hall?

Then a empty building made up of two rooms.  At this point the sun was going down.  Time to sleep.  He didn’t start a fire.  He didn’t wish to burn down the building.

But he couldn’t sleep for some reason.  Something about this site would not allow him.  So he decided to move north of it, close to the river, and set camp there.

But before leaving he claimed the site as his own.  That will teach them!

He slept by a campfire next to the river.  During the night he woke up but went back to sleep.  There seemed to be a group or party moving around at night, and during the morning, but they didn’t approach him and he didn’t go looking for trouble.

Also there was another settlement to the north.  Called Ucinomar.  Or Limbabyss.  A small hamlet.  But unlike the other hamlet the buildings were intact!

And people!   People to question!   He ran into the houses and started to question the humans he found there about Mopfocuses.

But the only interesting piece of information was that, nearby, was a placed called Endtown.  And that Mones Bandrealm, who lived in the hamlet, would know where it was.  But he was hard to find.

In fact nobody knew where he was.  He was a neighbor to everybody.  But none of the row of homes seemed to house him.

Where to go now?  Should he flip a dog or keep going north?  Or maybe talk to the local government?  At the Tressed Cacti - the mead hall?  He had overheard some of the humans talking about it.

If only he had something to do with his hands while thinking.  If only they had invented smoking pipes!

The World Of Bones - Succession World - Doom?

Holmes decided to try talking to the local government.  And if that failed he would carry out a house to house search to find ANYBODY who could point him the way to Endtown.

He found Tressed Cacti pretty quickly and also found the local rulers.  More humans.  To be honest he was slightly disappointed.  Everybody knew the best rulers were goblins.  And maybe a dwarf if you needed somebody for a few days.

He started asking questions.

Not only he get the same answers but the idiots starting fighting each other.  But he continued to ask them all the same questions.  But in the end they were all saying the same thing.

So he returned to town to search some more.

As he went from house to house he noticed the fields were full of squash plants.

He asked and asked and asked….and then the world crashed.  Not good.  I will try again later.

Well, at least I won’t waste time talking to these people.  I am just shocked the place looks so clean and well kept.

"Endtown" seems like a place name where one could expect the world to crash.

The World Of Bones - Succession World - A Fort

Holmes had a very weird day dream.  In the dream he asked a lot of questions and caused the end of the world.  And there was also something about clowns and slices of processed cheese.  Weird.

So he decided to head north and skip asking more questions.

So he headed north, following the river, and after a day found a lake which seemed to be generating its own weather.

Interesting.  He decided to explore.   There were some wild hippos, ospreys, and ducks.  He didn’t need food, he was one with nature, and felt no need to kill the animals.

Turned out the lake was a dead end.  So he went down the river to find a branch to follow in another direction.

Then he noticed.  A Fort?

Yeah, looked like a Fort.  Maybe he should ask THERE if anybody knew about Endtown.

The Fort was made out of saguaro.  Which made sense.  It was in the middle of the biggest desert known to…well, anybody.

And it turned out to be full of Dwarfs.  Lots of them.  So he started to talk to them and ask questions.

Nobody knew about Endtown and didn’t know WHO would know.

They also made fun of his name.

So he explored the Fort and, before leaving, took one of their books.

Not a very INTERESTING book.  But he took it anyway.  And then he left.

And he went north.  Following the river,

Also the world seemed to shake for a few seconds.  But nothing happened.

only in DF (and in real life?) do you steal a fancy book and find out later it's some kind of bureaucratic record of an extremely specific event from hundreds of years ago.

The World Of Bones - Succession World - Into The Desert

So, after half a day Holmes found the end of the river he was following.

Then he remembered he didn’t need to eat or drink and decided to continue to head north.  Why follow the river when you didn’t need to?

So off he went!   He stopped at nightfall to make a fire and go to sleep.

The next morning he continued north.  There was no signs of civilization.  No roads, no forts, no hamlets.

Then, to the north, was what looked like a Fort and a party.  An army?  A patrol?

Maybe he could try to talk to the group passing him?

He tried to approach the party but they didn’t seem to want to talk him.  So he stopped to check the horizon again.

This time he saw them, now to his east, and approached.  And was ambushed!

Humans!  He attacked the Human crossbowman while the dog and horse went after the rest of the human band.

By the time the fight was over the animals were wounded, Holmes was tired, there were two bodies on the ground, as the rest of the humans, wounded, have fled.  Leaving behind pools of blood and body parts.

Loot time!

So, most of it was stuff that won’t fit him. Sad.  He would have loved to wear the horned owl helm. Though he did replace the copper buckler with a bronze shield.    And they did have lots of coin.  Either way it went into his backpack.  Who knows who would be willing to buy it?

Then he went to sleep.  When he woke up, it was nightfall, but he didn’t wish to go back to sleep.

First he checked the animals.  He finally noticed he only had one dog.  Eh…must of lost the others.  Maybe trapped in buildings?  Stupid doors.  Anyway, while wounded both animals would live and, maybe, heal.

Now, he decided, to head to the fort.  Of course, if those humans had come from the fort…things might get….ugly.

He armed himself.  Just in case.

The World Of Bones - Succession World - Mountains

Holmes, with copper spear in one hand and bronze shield in the other, entered the fort.

Oh yes, this was a human fort.  He decided to talk to a human armed with a sword who was standing in the doorway of one of the buildings.  And from the sounds there were many more of the apes inside the building.

After talking a little the human closed the door on Holmes.  How rude!

If he wanted to ask more questions he would have to, at least, open the door.  And expose himself to dozens of armed humans.  Still, he wanted to know more about this fort and where Endtown was!

So he did so.  Boy, there was a lot of them.

He asked about the area and was told -

Which made no sense…unless that was the name of the fort.  It was hard to hear over the crowd.

Then he asked about Endtown and not only did the swordsman not know where it was he had no idea WHO would know where it was.

Holmes sighed and decided that at least none of them were trying to kill him.

He then asked about the local government and was told that the Ordered Secret ruled Pinkearth.  Pinkearth was the name of the fort.  Hehe.

Id Distrancedredge was the Lord but the swordsman didn’t care either way.  Maybe it had changed hands lately?

He put away his weapons and explored the fort.  Maybe there would be something worth stealing?

There was nothing to steal and he was getting drowsy so he left, headed north, and went to sleep.

The next morning he realized he had lost the last dog.  It may have become trapped in the fort.  Stupid doors.

He decided to continue north.  Though…there seemed to be mountains in that direction.

Yeah.  Mountains.  Maybe he could climb over them?

And it worked.  Took much of the morning but he reached the other side without much of a problem.  There were lots of natural ramps to climb up and down.  Also the mountain range had been pretty flat on top.

Heading north, over the sand, he finally found a RIVER!   Now, he would follow it north.

Would he find Endtown?   Would he find a town at all?  Was he in a uncivilized section of the world?  Was there any section of the world that WAS civilized?

But how will he figure out which way to go now that he lacks a dog to flip?
