7 AI majors. That's a slog. It's why I only played RC and never with extra processing time or particularly high difficulty for a while until Vic did some optimizing. It's better than it was, but even so adding majors adds a lot of time for them to plan and execute.

Really not looking forward to clearing out Trogs.

I'm still not opposed to restarting. listening to you lot complain about this or that lack, I'm just sitting here looking at this glorious empire and thinking, "What else could I really want?"

Diary of Salmeuk the III, Supreme Dictator of the Empire of The Hounds of Dando

Late Winter of 102

I now have a large rash on my left inner thigh. I think I picked up some fungal disease when I swam through a particularly thick patch of the local algae.

Less importantly, one of the upstart commanders opened fire on some local denizens riding atop large reptilian steeds, thinking they would be good target practice. Instead, a hundred more of these dinosaur riders appeared and retaliated, killing the commander and many of his soldiers.

Also, in the west, a mysterious formation of semi-intelligent A.I. sentry robots have suddenly appeared, shooting anyone who walks too close. They have cut off the western railroad and the southern province entirely. They are far too strong for our current technology to handle, and the only hope we have is that their prime directive leads them away, not closer, to our capital city.

The sun sets over Lake Wanenna and columns of smoke rise in the west. It has been half a year since I took hold of this empire, and it has already caught fire.

I'm actually feeling pretty upbeat after this last turn. However complaining is just the Grognard raison d'etre, and I take my position as The Grumbliest quite seriously.

Oof. The troglodytes sure like the taste of our burghers!

Oh, my lord. They're descending from the mountains. Bring out the AA guns. Bring out the everything.
Now, what's that right next to the mountains? Why, a road connecting our Burghs. And also the Burghs. Will that result in !!fun!!? Probably.

(you will not outcomplain us!)

Typical pampered out-of-touch royal, who doesn't understand that what is best in life is complaining about how your enemies are crushing you, how you're being driven before them, and how your spouses are lamenting your failures.

(If this is going to be a whine-vinting contest, the bureaucrats are not going to surrender to the grognards and food-service workers without a fight!)

Things I learned reading reports today: apparently there's a bureaucratic point production bonus that increases every turn.

Diary of Salmeuk the III, Supreme Dictator of the Empire of The Hounds of Dando

Early Summer of 102

You may have noticed that this date is earlier than my last entry. I was never told how our great country keeps track of time, and I always had someone else to tell me what day it is. Therefore it is not my fault I failed to ever acquire basic calendar reading skills.

We are being extorted by the major regime to our south. Wernerstein, an upstart barbarian kingdom, is demanding a payment of 400 liquid energy coin to prevent an immediate invasion. I will pay this due, since we are already fighting on two fronts, and these are going about as poorly as wars can go.

In worse news, the A.I. centurions seem highly intelligent or incredibly lucky, as their single attack on our exposed western railroads resulted in the rich southern farmlands being cut off from the northern lake cities, meaning %70 of our food supply was eliminated in one fell swoop. My father was a fool for only building a single rail line...

All counterattacks against these centurions have proved fatal. After losing the 400th soldier the commander of the 4th infantry, Owen Starvoid, refused to attack any further. Now they sit in a precarious stalemate. Watching the gigantic stalking robots tear apart the glorious north-south railroad is like a nightmare come true. Will they push further north in the coming months?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our only friends in these dark times are the alien natives, a weird lot of freaks who seem to really really like living next to us. Or something, we can barely understand their envoys. Their relative placidity is something of a boon, albeit in a creepy uncanny valley sort of way.

Early Summer of 102

Foul creatures, those Wernersteinians! They promised to take my money and remain peaceful, but instead they took my money and FUCKED me! Invasion to the south! How are we supposed to contend with all these demons? I have half a mind to retreat into the mountains and drink sweet wine until oblivion overcomes my frayed senses.

We were just taking back the eastern scrublands from the dinosaur riders, but now we have reports of enemy movement along the entire southern border... what the fuck are we gonna do? Father never said ANYTHING about diplomatic affairs, and I feel there is no recourse in that regard. We must fight it out. We will likely lose the southern province, maybe more. This is horrible.

Death to Wernerstein! Death to the A.I.! Death to the barbarian hordes! The Hounds of Dando will never fall!

ooc: btw I reveal all information willingly and in the interest of storytelling, so feel free to abuse whatever intel you pick up from these journals. or don't, and join the decadent roleplay. also, I felt great joy when the A.I. literally cut off a majority of my farmland resulting in mass starvation, if only because of the impressive simulation that was occurring before me. what an interesting game system

I really don't get why the fauna seems so deadly here. I've had less problems in my 86m kaiju world. And starting at lower tech too.

Don't worry, you're quite safe. You seem to have cleverly disguised the intel as walls of text. :P
After all, as Sun Tzu said: 'If you know your enemy, you will win many battles. Unless tl;dr; then gtfo.'

The biggest thing with kaiju is they're almost always 1 attack per unit per round. Trogs may be weaker, but they're 8 per round. That's not just a lot of attacks, it's a lot of attacks frontloaded, and at this stage of the game it doesn't matter much that they're comparatively weaker than the kaiju - they're strong enough that their attack can score hits on starting infantry consistently. I'm having trouble with swarms of Birdbeaks (including, yes, "solitary" ones) whose attacks are ~1/2 what trogs are and there's half as many attacks, but since there's more of them they're still shredding infantry.

Wait, where's the number of attacks indicated?
