Hmm, got a mission from a faction to raise a profile that they don't even like. Weird.

Anyway I predicted that my early game troubles would be pretty much resolved by turn 10, and yeah, it's looking ok. Having less than half the population of the leader isn't a great feeling still. Hopefully the army doesn't all keel over from radiation sickness. Time to see how murderous the Reptiloids are I guess- their lands are nice and rad free.

Bleurgh. Even the on-paper inferior moorbeasts are messing me up. A whole brigade attacking some 3k of those from four directions, 6:1 odds (yeah, right), and the end result is 1k dead Burghers and not a single registered hit.  >:(
I am so going to turn this planet into a museum of alien genocide.

That's a pretty surprising result looking at the picture of those guys- extremely poor hp and soft defense (though I don't remember offhand if the Bane trait does anything interesting). Maybe your troops are defective.

Bane makes misses cause morale loss. I don't know how this could result in such a poor performance, though.

I could see that leading to cascading failure. Miiss, lose morale, thus making it easier to miss, thus lose more morale... It's only Bane II, but IDK how dramatic those effects are. I'd assume starting troop morale could make a pretty big difference too; if the Trogs have been having regular Burgher-eating contests, being unable to hit even the lowly Moorbeasts might break even a well-seasoned troop...

these damn A.I. are INFURIATINGLY good against my current tech level. even throwing some tanks failed to budge them. I guess I'm stuck waiting for them to push into my various holdouts, slowly whittling them down, while I try to balance the other two fronts.

Oh yeah, Owen? Sick of fighting sentry walkers? Well fucking STARVE then in that little desert village you've claimed as your base of operations. STARVE YOU BASTARD

When you're low-tech, anti-tank guns are good against Sentinels. Redesigning/updating your light tanks to use HVCs instead of howitzers would also make them much more effective against bots.

Also: 5 units defected with him? Ouch. I've never had an OHQ CDR get more than 1 to go with him, but then I'm an aggressive people-pleaser.

Even my unpaid troops who I have deployed in a radioactive wasteland are giving me about 50 support. I don't think I've ever seen a defection that large, wow.

And yeah, absent discovering RPGs, you're really going to need the AT guns to have a chance against hard targets.

That's where I stand as well. 6/8 of my neighbors are hostiles. OTOH, I'm pretty sure I killed off one of them this turn and will finish off another next turn. OTTH, all that means is that my border will suddenly be shared with the nastier two hostile zones behind those.

Unfortunately, rebels "live off the land" aka "eat rocks" aka "are cheating bastards that don't need supply"

...and my spies see a human major on turn 14. Whelp. We're not exactly about to butt heads - still plenty of other things between us - but this is looking more like my first war with a major will be fairly low-tech...

Not even complementing the possibility of peace, eh? My sympathies to whomever the boot falls on.

Hey, you're not talking 'bout me, are you? 'Cause while I can see your protectorate across the mountains (not again), I'm in a friendly cooperative mood.

Diary of Salmeuk the III, Supreme Dictator of the Empire of The Hounds of Dando

Month 10 of 102

these engineers have done it again. in searching for the perfect attack machine, they have created something utterly powerful. A perfect counter to these walking A.I.

Owen Starvoid defected, the fool! He personally addressed his resignation to me, claiming my failure to leave the palace grounds was shameful, and that he wouldn't be fighting dual-tank cannon armed walking robots with autorifles and improvised explosives if my father was still here. .

Later that week, scouts reported the utter destruction of all 5000 defecting troops by the rogue A.I.

Month 12 of 102

something curious was found, in the west. After pushing back the walkers with our shiny new tanks, we uncovered a series of unactivated sentries half buried in the sand. They were supplied with power, and upon coming to life they seemed ready to follow our commands.

This 'war' to the south is nothing of the sort. A few fields stolen, sure, but almost nothing has been seen of the enemy and their ferocious troops.

Thousands of mutants mass on the border. Unaffected by the intense radiation, they seem content to mock us from the riverbank.

The global markets have stabilized.. as predicted our various mines have allowed us to corner the market on certain raw materials. I sign off new salaries for all commanding officers, to prevent another Owen, but I cannot help but wonder if any of them will simply take the money and run.
