I'd really just like to say thanks for this game.

I haven't played in a while but I think this is really amazing. Just playing ASCII with no mods or anything it really tugs on your heart strings when you lose dwarfs. It's crazy when you go from that when you're clicking 20 different menu options to direct one dwarf to stuff like dwarf therapist and tiles instead of a massacre or watching your guys die from mismanagement, when you get invaded or something it's like welcome to my fortress we'll open our doors for you to come in if you dare. I just wanted to say I appreciate what you do. This game really helped cheer me up at times I felt bad and I honestly get cravings to play it sometimes.

Quoted for truth, Dwarf Fortress really is one of those games that'll live rent free in my heart until I die, for having achieved the kind of story telling normally reserved for books like LOTR

I've moved on to other games, I'll get DF when it's on Steam and had its UI updates and so on, but yeah. Holds a special place in my heart and informed a lot of my preferences in games as an adult.

I'm in a similar boat.  DF was an important part of meeting most of my current friends and was a game I played a ton 10 years ago, but I've moved on.  I'll definitely pick up the Steam version when it's released though, to help support the game and maybe get back into it a bit.

+1, no other game has been such an inspiration to me, in coding, in story telling, in my concepts of fun and enjoyment.
