Frogman conga gone wrong?

The frogman slams into an obstacle!

This is what I love about this game, the random occurances. Like, what in the heck was going on here? Did they spawn somewhere and immediately fall off of it? This happened literally when I arrived at a goblin tower.

You wandered past a cave river.  Cave rivers take up multiple z-levels, and have miniature waterfalls going down each level in the river's "tube".  The current is quite strong, and any creatures that just don't swim fast enough will get swept over the edge and slammed into the level below.

I think maybe I should've killed him instead of leaving him lying there. He continued to wake up and pass out as I explored two other towers.
