I tried to play chess but two of my opponents were playing competitive checkers as a third person walked in with Game of Thrones in hand confused cause they thought this was the book club.

Would the representation be significantly limited in some way compared to the "real" thing?

Representations of it live in people's minds, of course, but for any project of sufficient complexity there is no other place it can truly exist then in the computer implementation.

Anyway, did it exist in the second millennium? (i.e before the year 2001)
