+ Dwarf Fortress Labor Survey + (Now with Results!)
« on: July 18, 2021, 11:23:40 am »

UPDATE:

Here's the raw data and the analysis I put together based on the responses.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

How do you manage your dwarf labor roles? Here's an (unofficial) chance to vent your frustrations or sing the praises of job assignments in fortress mode.

This anonymous 6-question survey wants to hear what you have to say about labor assignments in order improve the experience. Results will be posted to r/dwarffortress.

Nice survey! All of the questions were clearly formulated, and not too hard to answer. I’m looking forwards to the results :)

Yes, should be fascinating, just on the "how many people use Therapist/alternate programs" front. I mean, I don't have, or even recognise, the other pictures. So it will really be a survey showing how many people use third party software, from what I can see, rather than a survey showing labour assignments. Interesting, either way.

Just checked up on what was happening with this and last update was that there had been 470 responses so far.

I hope someone will post the results, or a link to them, here once they are done.  I don't get to reddit much...

Last I saw was actually 672. And I, too, am very much anticipating the results. Or even a data dump - that'd still be fine with me.

I closed it at 900, been going through the results in my free time. I'll post my "analysis" here as well as the raw data once I finish.

Out of curiosity, what were the questions? I didn't see this thread until just now, and I can no longer view the survey now that it's been closed.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Not exact question text but:

1. Fortress mode skill level (1-5)?
2. Labor management method (Vanilla, Auto, Spreadsheet)?
3. Why use that method?
4. When/why do you manage labors?
5. Problems when managing labors?
6. Improve one thing about managing labors?
7. Other comments

When did Toady "overwhelmingly denounce" dwarftherapist? ???

Some punctuation would be good there but it's "overwhelming" and "denounced" separately.

There was an interview where he said he doesn't think he'll go the spreadsheet route for vanilla labors, leaning more towards an auto system that fits the theme
