Invasion Inc.

Welcome aboard chief, I'm Hallnik, your Operations Officer. I'm sorry about the shuttle ride, but the department has seen better days. Although that's why you're here, right?

Your predecessor let things go a bit slack, but I had some of the Engineer Caste sort out a temperorary suite for you whilst your official accommodations get, ah... deep-cleaned. Should be ready for you in a few cycles.

Anyway, you'll find the latest status report on the terminal, and if you've got any questions, CentiCom or I can fill you in. Meanwhile, I'll be getting the rest of the ship in a state to move out, should be good to go by mid-cycle.

---

The hatch closes behind you, as the strip lighting flickers into action. A cradle takes up the majority of the space, with a wall of alcoves opposite an embedded terminal. The temporary 'suite' was stretching the term to its absolute limit. Amusing, as it would probably fit quite comfortably into your average storage locker. You stow your pack in one of the smaller wall slots, and sigh. Most of your effects are still enroute, so hopefully you'll be in more appropriate lodgings before they arrive.

Settling carefully into the terminal (one of the harnesses looks seriously worse for wear), you scan your ident chip and connect to the system. It appears your accounts have already been set up, so you can review ship and asset status, navigational data, project management and you even have mail!

You've got a few sub-cycles to burn, so what do you want to do first?

How the frack have you got spam already? No one outside of corporate should even know this account exists, let alone have the ident for it. Sifting through messages promising "Hot Single Mates in your sector", and pills of dubious affect, you find something actually relevant.

Opening it, you find it's a welcome and congratulations from your direct superior Keelim. Buried beneath several paragraphs of aggrandizement is the following:

I have forwarded a pair of contracts from Sales. With your level of expertise  you should make short work of them, so I would like you to take this opportunity to familiarise yourself with the assets at your disposal, and to our unique structure as no doubt your previous employers did things a little differently.

However I must remind you that we will not confirm the contracts until you take them up, so if you spend too much time on a job the company will miss out on a potential win. Once you've completed Acquisition you can hand off to the Asset Management Team though, so you can move on to what you do best. I've attached their ident to this message.

Contacts List Updated

Okay, so nothing critical, but still useful. You draft up an appropriate thank you.

Anything else you'd like to add before you send it off? What else would you like to do?

You open up the Asset Management tool.

At your disposal are three starships.

The Cruiser Unsound Logic. An ex-military patrol vessel, it's been refitted for corporate use. Its primary features Command, Control, Communications & Computation (C4), a compact Foundry and Manufacturing center, and some cavernous holds. To top it off are a few small hangers for shuttles and dropships.

You also have two frigates. The Trade Surplus, responsible for resource extraction and refining, and the Small but Mighty a heavily over gunned escort that can punch well above its weight, including limited Orbital Strike capability, in exchange for being rather fragile.

In terms of staff, you obviously have your aide Hallnik. In additin, is a pair of xeno-linguists with experience in cryptography and software reverse-engineering. You also have a skeleton crew for the Foundry, and Commander Andess, responsible for planet-side tactical decisions.

Finally, the Foundry comes with a library of blueprints that it can produce. Between Hallnik, CentriCom and old-fashioned searching you should be able to find a blueprint to fit any given criteria.

Not exactly blown away by the current state of affairs, but supposedly the first couple of jobs should be easy, so you'll be able to prove the value of an increased budget soon enough.

Alright, let's check if we inherited any "old business."

Project Management. Now we're talking.

Curiously, project history is mysteriously empty. There's nothing within the last mega-cycle here. Clearly, nothing worrying to read into there.

A flashing icon draws your eye to two Pending Contracts.

Thraneia Delta
A Grade 3 Terrestrial World, mired by it's thick atmosphere laced with compounds classed as toxic to 70% of Common Star Species. With an average temperature below freezing, there is only a thin strip of temperate climate along the equator.

It has an indigenous population in the tens of millions at an equivalent of tech level 4.9, due to the proliferation of basic kinetic penetrators accelerated by chemical explosives.

Objective - Recover the Ibex, a civilian craft that crash landed on the planet near the habitable zone, for an as-yet-unknown reason. After native forces trekked to and claimed the site, peaceful attempts were made, but rebuffed. Aggressiveaction has been approved, but causing excessive collateral will be penalised. All crew and parts must be accounted for.

Expected Payout - 15 MegaCreds

Erythia Prime
A small, high spin, Grade 2 Terrestrial World, kept by warm by its thick atmosphere and kept perpetually storm wracked by that same atmosphere. Officially there is only a single settlement, but it is notorious as a place people go to disappear.

Clocking in at the tens of thousands, the settlement of Erythia Landing is inconsequential if it weren't for its imported Tech Level of 12, just below Common Star standard.

Objective - The Planetary Government recently uncovered a sizeable deposit of Orichalcix, a rare and highly prized resource that threatens to destabilise the local market. The Orichalcix refinery must be secured. As the planet is officially independent there are no restrictions in place, beyond causing a reputation that may harm the company.

Expected Payout - 28 MegaCreds

---

You can only pick one right now, but if you're quick enough about it, you can probably follow up the other afterwards. Our current expenses are considered as part of the Payout, so it's just a question of what we think we can pull off.

We're going to Erythia Prime.  (If they needed rescue that badly on Thraneia, they would've paid more.  They're only savages, so it can't be that bad.)

Tell our boss Keelim, we're going to Erythia Prime.  Then, contact Ground Commander Andess to find out what he needs to bring home the bacon.

I would go for Thraneia Delta, as helping civilians is a better look for us than taking other people's refineries. But perhaps I shouldn't worry as much about PR and focus on acquisitions.
