Friends, it's a new year. I'm not sure I'll be posting on B12 regularly in 2022, but for 2021, I'm pretty sure I'll be around, so I thought I'd post another one of these threads. Some of the other Forum Olds might remember these.

Every year I think of twelve things I want to do that will take planning ahead, and brighten the future. This is less "New Year's Resolution" and more "farmer picking new saplings for the orchard."

I'll put my example in the next post, but this is how it works:
- Spend some time thinking of 12 things you want to do in 2021.
-----> The more concrete these are, the better.
-----> Think about whether you could realistically complete your goals in a year or not. The idea is to motivate you to finish things and plan ahead, and also practice gauging whether your plans are reasonable or not. Done is better than perfect!!
- Write your 12 things in a list format in this thread.
- Post updates as you work on and complete goals. The idea, more than finishing anything in particular or "being impressive," is to create an environment in which we grow together, for a year.

(If you wanna do a half-Behemoth, that is 6 things, that's also fine.)

1. Learn to make coffee.
2. Sort through belongings and downsize in preparation to move.
3. Complete an editing project.
4. Go back to my full moon tea and solstice cleaning traditions.
5. Reading goals (see the Hot Fresh Reading Challenge)
6. Tithe 10% to mutual aid again this year.
7. Study for the JLPT N1, and take the exam if it's offered this year.
8. Apply for [REDACTED] grant.
9. Work on starting a lesson study group at my present institution.
10. Pass algebra prelim
11. Pass analysis prelim
12. Actually sign up for the prisoner penpal project.

Gotta say so far so good on 1&2, but sketchy on 3&4. The problem is energy at the end of the day and maintaining focus on rigorous practice. So;

I've worked on these four goals so far. Put a bunch of books and clothes on the curb today. Did the tithing for last year in early January and am trying to feel through how I should do it this year. Talked to people a bunch about the lesson study group.

Am I doing well ... ? No, not exactly. But I'm getting there.

I'm also setting aside a little money every week that I Get Things Done Right in grad school, and I suppose part of that will be used to purchase coffee accoutrements and whatnot as I figure out what components I need.
