I've actually been hoping there will still be an ASCII option.

I'm not trying to gatekeep, I'm not stopping you from enjoying a tileset. I just wish that I could have an alternate option available, to keep my imagination filling in the pictures, as it has with the little letters saying Sheep and Apple and Dwarf. And cherry blossom falling to the ground and making the world beautiful. I'll be sad if I don't have the ability to see it all in ASCII, same as the frustration and loss I felt when my mobile phone wouldn't let me type a colon and a bracket and make a smiley face without putting in some annoying animation in its place.

There is infact going to be an ASCII option, yes. The free version downloadable on the site here will always have the ASCII version, and iirc there was talk of being able to download and play an ASCII display version with the UI elements from Steam

By the way, your avatar has a Photobucket banner over it for me, making it look funny.

Photobucket changed a bunch of things ages back (like, 5+ years) that stopped proper embedding and put overlays up if you exceeded a certain tiny amount of bandwidth use unless you paid for a premium account. There's a reason I switched to imgur (and it is by no means the only option, should you not care for imgur).

Seem to have fixed it, by changing out of PB again. Nothing lasts forever.

Good to know that I'll still have the ASCII option with DF then. I've been playing since Oh-God-Who-Knows (Boatmurdered? I guess? Or sometime around then) so I guess I'm set in my ways.... but unlike every other game I've played long term, I've enjoyed every update. It's just the graphics that get me worried.

The Premium version will have character "graphics" as an option, so you can play the payed version with it. The gameplay change will be that the separation of text and tile sets means that the set of characters that can be used isn't limited to the code page (which the text will continue to use), so the possible glyph space has been expanded.
