I say we handle bane metal later and-

I'd also like to note we're very close to an advanced dragon form - it's a short boat ride South of here, in some mountains near Mossberg, a semi-active volcano, and some ruins. This is likely to be worth getting.
Go do this now.

Are you going all the way to Robot Antarctica, or is this just a quick side-trip?

I was thinking if we were to go there we'd go all the way.

If we did this and returned to Valterre, how many days would our trip to Robot Antarctica be set back, as opposed to stopping there on the way?

If it's less than three days wasted, just take a quick side trip and return to Valterre.

Note: as it's a day's sailing, and we want to do the dragon form in any case, that's a vote for quick side trip.

More cash would be nice, as would a distraction. The boys have been sitting still without causing issues for an unusual amount of time, better not to push our luck.

Unpredictable.  It'll be a day to sail down and a day to sail back.

..but you don't know how long it'll take to find the dragon thingy.  Some have been pretty quick, but it took some time to find the underwater one.

Full trip. We're down to four upgrades, which isn't enough for the kind of big spending we should be doing. We can come back when we've got vast bags of dosh, exotic materials, and a better idea of what exactly we want or need.

Six upgrades.  Although the trip will cost money.

(Although you'll likely make a profit on monster slaying en-route)

Robot Antarctica, properly known as Aethrem is quite a long way away.. with a few side objectives on the way.  There's the one advanced dragon form just south of Valterre and north of the volcano.  Also unsurprisingly there's a fire shrine on the opposite bank.

Far to the south there is a second available elemental shrine.  There's a wind shrine on the east coast of Rustian.  Last time you went past there, you were in an escorted ship getting the slightly impolite trip to the eastern continent.  But this time you should be able to give it a visit en-route.

Overall, you're going to be travelling on two ships.  A small one to visit the new dragon form, and eventually hop down to Port Silver.  And a larger one from Port Silver to Aethrem.. robot Antarctica.  You don't have any of the meteor heartmetal they want so desperately, but you can afford a small crate of [+3] weapons, which will bring in better money down there.

The black volcanic beaches are under the black hills near the volcano.  The slopes are mostly bare, covered by fast-growing ground cover, grasses, small bushes, and baby trees.  But the thaumulator is clear, whatever you are looking for is on the north slope, a good two days of hiking away from the beach and up the hills.  There are no notable monster encounters to be found.

You weren't sure what you were expecting at the location, but a vineyard surrounded by fields of grapes wasn't it.

It's not going to be that simple.  There's a main building, a couple of outbuildings for the wine, a building for the workers and a few sheds.  And an old couple with a younger man, along with a few hired hands.

And they don't want to let you search their home, where the dragon form is.

What do you do?

Crap. Property rights, the bane of all adventurers.

Offer to perform some kind of service in exchange for access. There must be something fancy they want fetched or killed, right?

There isn't anything obvious.  They're quietly prosperous, and don't need too much labour for at least a few months.  They don't need anything special to be delivered, and they are not currently under attack.  Their guards are in an outpost a little bit further down the hill, shared among a dozen or so homesteads.

Hmm.

They leave us no choice.

Wait until night and then start skulking. There's like ten farmers, unless it's directly under a house we should be able to poke around without alerting them.

We could also just pay them but that doesn't feel very adventurey.

Yeah, there aren't enough people, and they don't even have a dog or something, so sneaking around is very possible.

You eventually narrow down the exact location.  It seems to be right where a chimney is in the main house.  Hopefully it's just on the fireplace mantle or something.  Remembering the last situation.. hopefully it isn't buried under the mantle sometime.

A bit of work with the Thamulator, and Uncle starts checking for vertical displacement.

"Huh.  Odd readings.  It could be buried, but it could be at ground level or it could be well above the building.  I'm not sure what this means."
